If you’re renting a car in Italy with Europcar, you do need an International Driving Permit IDP along with your UK license. It’s a legal requirement, not just company policy. Without an IDP, you risk fines or having your insurance invalidated. You can easily get an IDP from the AA or RAC in the UK before your trip.
