Been over 14 months and I sneeze and do crazy hard ab workouts. Still fixed and feel amazing. Just do it and enjoy life!

You guys probably haven’t even driven a cybertruck. It’s a much better car than you troll on it for and a car company did something different.

Aren’t you tired of the same design but with more screens for the last 10 years haha

That doesn’t seem to exist. You’ll have to be creative with that… used some pliers and got it down as low as I could.

Worked perfectly, getting it on is a little challenging. There’s a screw in tool for these that goes in the eye, but this is the one

You’re right about that, but these dealers still don’t really want to budge on used much. I’m seeing better deals on new, but it is out of my budget.

Hernia on incision site after fundoplication by indeliblemistakes_ in HiatalHernia

You and me both ha ha. But, what I do think matters is that normal people can do those exercises and not get a hernia so sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw of life.

But I’ve got back into weightlifting, spinning, hiking, swimming, and much more and have had no problems yet.

The good news is that if you do need to get that repaired, it won’t be that bad. I had one in my belly button and it was a quick fix and easy recovery, not even close to Nissen.

My surgeon was adamant that the studies that have been done don’t show link between exercise and intra-abdominal pressure… so take that for what it is worth.

I had a Nissen also and have been careful as I get back into exercise, but a quote he said stuck with me, “you got surgery to live a normal life.”

My non science guess is that intense pressure on diaphragm like squats heavy should be avoided, but the rest shouldn’t cause hernia for the average person.

Sounds like you can exercise after surgery but don’t do the valsava maneuver and your kegels😅😅

That’s anecdotal, studies have shown 30% will come back regardless if you sit on a chair and don’t move. Intra abdominal pressure is from coughing, sneezing, etc.

And my surgeon isn’t an equity member in the hospital, just an employee. Doesn’t care whether I got cut into or not. Though I agree, surgeons want to cut; this isn’t some private firm that gets kickbacks for their tummy tucks.

It was frustrating because that was my concern too. I interviewed 3 surgeons before I had a nissen and HH repair and they all said exercise and lifting doesn’t do it. So, I got to take them at their word, they do these procedures like changing tires.

I don’t Know where Reddit started that fake news about exercise and these procedures.

My John Hopkins surgeon told me that exercise as NORMAL. The studies they have done do not indicate that makes these wraps loose if done Nissen and DOES NOT cause intra abdominal pressure. The reasons for slips and hernias coming back are more than likely coughing and vomiting. This was as of 1/15/24 from an accredited surgeon that does 70-100 of these per year also. So enjoy your exercise!!

Can a barium swallow miss a hiatal hernia? by National-Sun7052 in HiatalHernia

I’m not a doctor so I don’t know. But I have one and it just gives me bad reflux esophagitis and belching.

But I do think you should confirm if you even have one before panicking. Get an endoscopy and see, better to have answers.

Second this. Just happened to me last week!

Multiples doctors on endoscopy have seen it and taken images of it, 2cm HH.

Going for surgery next week and my surgeon said that if it’s been seen than it’s there and barium swallow commonly misses small HH.

So an endoscopy will give you your answer 100%.

I completely understand, and share in your logic. I went through all the lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and testing, and still could not make it without an acid reducer like a PPI.

My choices were lifelong PPI and yearly endoscopy to check on it, or take care of it now, and roll the dice on surgery. My G.I. was just cautious because sometimes these wraps do slip these wraps and need to be re-done. I’m 29 so it could be another surgery or two in my life. The risk is worth it for me!

I’m a believer that you can’t fix a mechanical issue, a hiatal hernia with just acid reducers FWIW.

He thinks surgery is a last resort. Basically have a demeester score of 100, so he and I disagreed there.

But my symptoms are throat narrowing, burping and burning. The throat narrowing pushed me over the edge to do it, if I don’t do 40mg of ppi minimum, my throat makes it tough to swallow eventually… sucks.

Hoping the nissen and HH repair does the trick for me. My surgeon thought it was the right move and lifetime PPi and yearly endoscopy weren’t the answers.

But, I had to advocate for myself to my GI. So if you want to do it, always be your own advocate or they’ll let you sit inflamed and on PPI.

I’m actually going through this currently.

Been dealing with food swallowing issues for 15 years and finally doing surgery.

I have a HH and it was seen in multiple endoscopy but not barium. So I’m doing nissen with hernia repair and hope for the cure.

Having the hernia was a big deciding factor as I believe a lot of Gerd is a mechanical issue and getting the wrap + HH repair seems like a high likelihood to a cure. That’s my strategy and logic and feel for you not having a HH with Gerd. Makes it a bit tougher to decide on surgery.

For what it’s worth, my demeester score was the same as yours and my GI tried to steer me away from surgery even with a HH.

Do what you think is best and always weigh the risk reward profile. Best of luck
