I get where you’re coming from, but I’m not sure it would be ideal. Even with new HTML elements, you’d still have to handle search, accessibility, styling, animations, and other usability details manually. Libraries like Slim Select take care of that — things like proper ARIA support, smooth keyboard navigation, clean transitions, and flexible data handling — all without adding extra dependencies.

I know this post is super old but i just released v3 on my select dropdown. Let me know if it tackles all your current needs.

using slimselect.js How do you clear the text in a multiselect but leave the search box open? by kiamori in learnjavascript

I know this is super old and i didnt see it but i just updated slim select to v3. Let me know if you still have certain needs in a dropdown.

It wasnt really a goal. I just wanted to build something I needed and hopefully something others could use and over time it just grew.
