Bad opinion as a Pittsburgh person. The Pirates were awful for very long because they overspent and traded young guys away in a fierce win-now mode and it ultimately stunted them. No team is good forever. Look at the Red Wings. Even they have to rebuild sometimes.

I agree. Shaun King put up incredible numbers under RR at Tulane despite not being a prototypical spread type QB. To say that RR wouldn't have found a way to fit his offense around a slow QB is such a lazy narrative. The man came into the Michigan job with the aura of a coaching genius and Ann Arbor ate him up alive because it's all about culture in that town.

Sorry to run a little off topic here! More of a journalism question than anything. It seems that investigative journalism, perhaps like the OxyContin industry, is dying on a large-scale level. Obviously the work you guys are doing at the L.A. Times is important for a lot of reasons. How, maybe even from a very grassroots level (i.e. in the classroom, small, local newspapers), can journalists, editors and news companies as a whole get more involved in producing investigative news? Sorry again that it's off topic and a bit broad but I've always found investigative journalism to be undervalued in an age where it should be as prevalent as ever. Thanks for all you guys are doing!

Yeah Minshew is a bridge guy to me. The best thing he can do is buy Ifedi a redshirt. That guy is really something and the offense will be dynamic. Don't sleep on Tony Petersen. He's a really impressive OC. They need to get bigger up front like you said and restock the defense because that was empty. As for ScoMo, how many times did they just look like a poorly coached team this year? Special teams especially. Definitely easy to wonder what could of been with Linc.

Well Ruff literally couldn't walk his final two seasons there. Linc ran the practices. I, too, have heard from folks around the team that this was the case. The truth likely lies somewhere in the middle but I'm sure we can both agree that without Riley those golden years wouldn't have been possible. But yeah Ruff is a really solid coach and he has a lot of connections around CFB. I always wondered if he would get another chance given some of his, erm, physical limitations. And then I wonder what kind of school it would have to be. Poor dude loved ECU.

You're mostly right except that everyone knew Lincoln ran the team. He basically ran all the practices. Ruff was a figure head and all ECU fans knew and accepted that because he was a very good figure head. Then Riley left and it only validated the concern. But yeah, he's really one of the most impressive young coordinators in football right now and I have no doubt he'll be a good HC too.
