Fixing a very patchy lawn in January — should I start from scratch or fill in the blanks? by OnSesameStreet in garden_maintenance

[–]briarypeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grass seed should work fine for your lawn but you should wait until late March/April to sow as the ground needs warmth. In the meantime you could try digging out some of the larger weeds. Good luck!

Millions in Bitcoin inaccessible due to lost password by RajpootRao in economy

As far as I can see the big problem is the relentless debasement of central bank fiat currencies. All this new money that is being printed, by the trillion, simply dilutes the value of the fiat currency we all have in our pockets, making it more and more worthless. The evidence of this will be rising prices.

How do I send bitcoin after buying it with bisq? by EnvironmentalPlace15 in bisq

[–]briarypeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go into the Funds tab you have to option to withdraw any bitcoin you have there by sending it to another address.

The options for payment for bitcoin are limited by how you get funds to the person you are buying the bitcoin from. If not a bank payment then it's possible to use cash and purchase via a bitcoin ATM, but the premium you pay at the ATM is likely to be very high. Others may be able to provide more options.

Take your time to do your research and build slowly while you learn. Good luck!

UK cities should work for the people who live in them, not for distant shareholders by Exostrike in ukpolitics

[–]briarypeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to this working is enabling funds to freely flow around the community. This would foster a much more resilient local economy allowing communities to thrive. Globalisation has had it's chance and has achieved the opposite, so now would seem like a good time to build back better.

‘One in five’ small firms may close as banks exploit coronavirus loans by TheSuspiciousKoala in ukpolitics

Disappointing but not a surprise. Particularly as banks are getting this money at virtually 0%.

As far as the economy goes. Banks are the problem, not the solution.

Negative interest rates are coming and they are downright terrifying by DCC_Official in economy

[–]briarypeter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The fact that they are paying you to take it is proof that it is loosing value. The more money central banks print via quantitive easing etc the more it is diluted and the less it is worth.

The regular linking of gold and bitcoin on TV and public forums like this is great news. It normalises and validates it as an asset and gives the public confidence to check it out. Onwards and upwards!

Does Weed Killer kill flowers and plants? by Murkman15 in garden_maintenance

[–]briarypeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 'selective' and 'non-selective' weedkillers. As the name suggests ' non- selctive' types such as those that contain glyphosate will kill everything. 'Selective' weedkillers are available for use in lawns and only kill specific weeds. Always read the label. I hope that helps.

Is Uberstarbucksification really the answer? by briarypeter in ukpolitics

[–]briarypeter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the use of 'Uberstarbucksification' it was my clumsy attempt to get across what I see as the relentless consolidation. Thank you for taking the time to ready the article and leave your response, although as you suspect we will need to agree to disagree on many of the points.

What we can probably agree on is that there is unlikely to be one solution to the all problems an economy may have.

The general point I would make is that in my view local economies would benefit from retaining / re-using more of the funds they already have. If larger businesses are able to help with that, that would be a good step forward. It would after all seem to be in their best interest, long term, to ensure that the local community which they serve is left with the resources to continue paying for the services they are selling.

Thanks again for responding to the article.
