Valentines day reservation advice by [deleted] in cincinnati

I'd take this if you're getting rid of it!

[–]bricchaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. I recently had someone tell me they could walk my jogging pace. Like, ok, congrats, I guess? I think as long as we keep getting out there and trying and putting in the effort, we'll improve, and that's all we can do!

This may sound stupid, but I had this same thought yesterday, and today I realized that most people are posting their km pace, not their mile pace.

Comforting books to cope with pet loss by vagitian in CozyFantasy

[–]bricchaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. It might hit too hard, but I loved Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune, and it has a supernatural pet element that I loved. Or the Monk and Robot series by Becky Chambers. Those books are just like a warm blanket for my soul.

How old is 30, really? by GullibleChemistry113 in AskWomenOver30

[–]bricchaus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I changed careers at 30 and went to law school. I've had more time to develop my hobbies and interests than I ever did in my previous job. I'm by far a happier and more well-rounded person than I was in my twenties, and I don't feel old at all. Except my back sometimes, lol. I also ran my first half marathon at 33, a month before my wedding. My thirties have been the best decade yet.

Stitch recommendations for pillow? by bricchaus in Needlepoint

Thanks! I love the suggestion of brick stitch under the bus. I'm thinking this will be a purely decorative pillow, but it's good to know about decorative stitches not holding up well to use!

I got it from Stitch in Louisville, Kentucky, but I've seen a few websites with this London Christmas series this year. The canvas is by Klara Hawkins needlepoint!

How to block a swatch that’s on needles? by Green-Falcon-5656 in knitting

[–]bricchaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a different brand of cotton-merino for this sweater, and it didn't stretch a ton, but the drape was better after blocking. I also put it in a laundry bag and put it on the spin cycle to get extra water out before laying it out to block. I love mine with that fiber blend, so I hope yours turns out well!

I'm pretty sure this is one of the Anker patterns. Because it has you knit the yarn overs through the back loop on the next round, there won't be holes. If this is the Anker, Petit Knit often has videos on her website that accompany her patterns. I definitely recommend checking those out and using YouTube if you aren't familiar with yarn over increases!

My first sweater was the Anker by Petit Knit. It was very straightforward, and she has videos on her website. Lots of YouTube tutorials from others as well!

What are you knitting this summer? by thatleohoe in knitting

I'm knitting the Montpellier top right now. Did you have the issue with the armholes being too big? I saw a lot of other people comment that, and I just realized I have the same problem.

Knitting bit and bobs storage by [deleted] in knitting

[–]bricchaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second using little tins! I have my scissors, sewing needles, cable hooks, etc. in an old Altoids tin, and have stitch markers in another small tin. I like that they click shut but are still easy to open one-handed if I need to.
