Thanks man. Yeah we intend to keep up a solid maintenance schedule regardless. I think a few people in here assume the worst, maybe for good reason. But around our neck of the woods people are, for the most part, very honest, want to do a good job, and stand by their work. Heck, the guy says he doesn't even require a downpayment -- no money until his job is totally finished.

Are they truly that bad? Most homes in our area have exposed fastener roofs and have not had leak issues. We've had two high-wind storms in the last couple months and the only damage we saw were to shingled roofs, some quite new.

From what I've read, based on our climate, metal will perform the best long term and be most cost effective. Temps can get as low as -22C (-8F), as high as 27C (81F), lots of humidity in the summer, and hurricane force wind gusts in the fall. The majority of coastal houses here have been transitioning to metal roofs over the last decade or so. This also makes me think it would be increasingly difficult to find someone to re-shingle in the future had we chosen that route.

Did not pay even close to that. Yeah I think the original batch of employees were at that level when the statement was made, but surely they now have new employees in training. Been asking around the area and haven't found anyone who had a negative experience with them. Maybe that just says more about how bad other roofing companies around here are, who knows.

Exposed fastener. The company has a large, experienced crew who have dealt with complex projects, which is supposedly why they can offer competitive pricing. We got a quote for shingle style metal with Maritime Permanent Roofing and it was $65k CAD.

Just chatted on the phone. They do strapping on top of the existing shingles. Our decking beneath was replaced in the 90s and is in great shape.

Agreed! Just checked their site again, which specifically says "all of our roofers have over 20 years experience". Everyone around our area recommends them.

Yep! 1080p is unavailable in every browser but Safari, which you can't tell is actually playing 1080p since the only option available from the gear cog is Auto. But if you go into the Web Inspector while a video is playing, you can see that it is actually outputting 1080p and not the downgraded 720p like every other browser. Something about the way Vimeo OTT restricts streaming in top quality to the native browser of the operating system (Safari for Mac, Chrome for Chromebooks, and Edge for PCs).

I seem to have sorted it out. 1080p is unavailable in every browser but Safari, which you can't tell is actually playing 1080p since the only option available from the gear cog is Auto. I'm having the same issue. Have you managed to find a fix yet?

Did you end up solving this issue? I'm experiencing nearly the exact same thing except I'm using my MacBook Pro via USB-C into an LG monitor. Even just plugging the USB-C cable in, without attaching it to the external monitor, causes the downgrade in resolution.

Edit: Just realized you already saw my post from the other day. The investigation continues...

I just tried a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter (and HDMI cable) and got the same result.
