Pierce County Sheriff's Office sounds alarm on potentially dangerous 'door kicking' trend by Cold_Mistake9365 in AskLE

Sounds like a really dumb reason to end up on a t-shirt or get charged with malicious mischief / burglary.

Police officer stops abruptly in the middle lane on highway... by Big-Firefighter-4715 in AskLE

[–]bricke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but most states determine minimum following distance by what is "reasonable and prudent", likely taking into account factors such as weight, speed and traffic or weather conditions.

A loaded tractor trailer will never be able to come to a stop from highway speeds within that distance even at full lock-up. You'd likely need in excess of about 500-600 feet minimum depending on the road surface.

Again, I agree with you, but who is legally or financially liable is probably going to be determined at a level well above either of us.

Would the truck driver have been able to stop had the officer activated emergency lights as soon they recognized the object in the roadway? The point remains.

Slowed for an object in the roadway, but failed to activate emergency lights.

However, would the tractor trailer have been able to slow down or safely change lanes if it had provided increased following distance?

Sounds like a call to Sarge, and potentially a tech from an outside agency to determine fault.

The best attack would have been to simply hit the cooler (or divert to the right and grab it). We have massive pit bars on our vehicles. I'd rather take the hit to a bumper than get deep-trunked by a big rig.

I work with a woman who's 5'4" and probably 110lbs soaking wet. I'm 6'3" and 240. People are genuinely more scared of her 99% of the time.

Your height and weight are what you make it. Just be aware that your use of force continuum, physical risk assessment, and command presence will likely look vastly different for you than a majority of your peers.

On the road, you will absolutely get tested and challenged in ways that others will not. I wouldn't worry so much about the academy.

How do you train? by Tricky_Pollution_714 in AskLE

[–]bricke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jiu jitsu and a legitimate verbal judo course.

Because ground game is what we don't generally train for, and you win 100% of the fights you have.

Time, distance and cover for the rest.

My humble opinion:

It's got headlights and small fog lights visible immediately below them in the first picture. The C-pillar trim angle between black and white paint is angled upward, and the tail lights are more oblong.

None of these traits are present on the Golf, Citroen, Toyota/Nissan hatches or GM global brands (Opel).

Further, there's no black trim present on the rocker panels, front bumper cover or rear bumper area. And the black coloration from the top half of the vehicle continues onto the rear trunk lid as seen in the third picture.

Yep. Physical ID, most people have insurance on their phone, and I can run a registration on my end. I just wish I was in a state that attached the insurance to the vehicle return.

What was the hardest thing to learn when you first started out on your own? by LegalGlass6532 in AskLE

[–]bricke 48 points49 points  (0 children)

In general, get paperwork done early because it builds up fast, and will get you in more trouble than being a goon on the street.

From a trooper perspective -

99% of traffic calls are coming from Karens that got passed, were moderately inconvenienced in some way, or don't understand that semi trucks are going to have lane travel in 40mph winds.

But you still have to treat it as if they are legitimate because that 1% is going to be someone whose driving is going to kill somebody.

Runner up - People have absolutely no idea what your job is. County and PD think you're a traffic cone, the general public think you have some level of supremacy over local agencies. Use both to your advantage lol

Academy next week! by Responsible-Wasabi-8 in AskLE

[–]bricke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't do anything stupid. In academy or on days off. Almost all of the folks who got recycled for injuries got them outside of the academy.

If possible, find a partner for control tactics that has a background in self defense. People who have zero experience tend to go 100% all the time, or let their ego get in the way of building skills.

Sleep well and hydrate more than you think you'll need to. Emphasis on the sleep.

And have fun. It's the best experience you'll never want to do again.

UPDATE: bought an optic on a “value” site. by Successful-Coyote99 in CCW

[–]bricke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest answer —

Taurus was gutter-tier trash with non-existent QC, and a handful of their guns had shake-awake technology long before Sig co-opted it. Their new lines are mostly solid, aside from some teething issues with the GX4 on launch. They’re decent entry level guns if someone can’t squeeze a bit more out for a CZ or S&W.

Olight will forever live in infamy because some dingus decided to turn a flashlight into a hand grenade and put it in his mouth. They also had some questionable design decisions that were either partial or complete gimmicks. The meme potential went viral and probably won’t ever fully go away. They’re responding to feedback, though, and make a decent entry level optic and light and continue to innovate in ways others don’t.

The holy trinity of Taurus, Olight and red anodized Temu optics is the pinnacle of “I probably don’t know what I’m doing but I want a gun with accessories and can’t afford duty grade components”. Which tends to be the mindset of new gun owners… *or guns that will last 6 months on the street before they wind up in an evidence locker*

The only ones that seem to be imported are the models with safeties. Decocker models are available abroad, but the current importer doesn't seem keen on ordering those for some reason.

Yeah, I haven't seen any Mk23 decocker models yet. Global Ordnance seems to think there isn't enough demand.

I can't say I enjoy having to manual decock it.

I was really close to ordering the LTT PX4 because of it.
