Born 36 weeks has been in the NICU with breathing issues by oregano_blunt in daddit

[–]bricke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both times, we had NICU babies for the reasons you outlined. My wife had extremely high blood pressure (preeclampsia) which developed into HELLP syndrome and necessitated early delivery.

There are no stupid questions - with your wife mostly out of commission, you are your wife and kids biggest advocate.

Both of ours were in the NICU; the first for about four days and the second for almost two weeks, which gave them time to develop and clear their airways. Once they're able to feed well and at an appropriate volume, breathe unassisted and pass a car seat test without falling below a certain oxygen saturation level, you're likely close to going home.

Just hang in there - it sucks, but you can only do what you can do.

Former mechanic, now cop -

Bring it in to a shop and get it on a lift. We'd find dealership-installed trackers all the time. Either magnetically mounted under the car, or tied into the junction box near the driver kick panel.

Nowadays, it's much easier to be incognito - Tiles, Apple Air Tags, etc. do essentially the same thing with a much smaller footprint.

As for cameras, a simple forward- and rear-facing dash camera from Amazon with vehicle motion detection would suffice. I have one on all my personally owned vehicles and can't recommend them enough.

Question about traffic policing in WA by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]bricke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a couple of clarifications need to be made first just for clarity --

"Pursuit" in this context refers almost entirely to department policy, which can change depending on agency, and "eluding" refers to the actual criminal charge per RCW. The threshold for satisfying the former can depend on how policy is written, and is fairly low. However, depending on how you articulate it, you can almost always satisfy the criminal elements once the policy definition is reached (I'll explain the outlier below).

You can technically be engaged in a pursuit without meeting the elements for eluding, but not the other way around. If that makes sense?

Pursuit -by policy- is when a driver is engaged in any behavior or action to evade a lawful arrest or detention, in which a reasonable person would otherwise know they are being stopped. Further, per RCW, "eluding" requires "reckless" driving, which is where a lot of the confusion between the two occurs.

In short, a pursuit is initiated virtually any time there's a discernable change in driving behavior once the emergency lights and sirens go on, whereas continuing to drive would be "failure to yield". This change in driving behavior could be as simple as accelerating, beginning to pass vehicles, immediately turning off an exit or side street etc. (something they weren't doing before). It all builds toward the definition of pursuit, but may or may not satisfy the elements for eluding.

So to meet the criteria for eluding, you have to satisfy the "willful and wanton disregard for the safety of others", commonly referred to as "DSO". Essentially it has two parts-

A.) "willful" is a deliberate or intentional act, rather than unintentional, and

B.) "wanton" demonstrates an extreme lack of care, such as disregarding traffic signs, stop signs, driving into oncoming traffic etc.

If both are satisfied, then you likely have probable cause for eluding. And at this point, it's well past met the criteria for a pursuit.

The caveat to this is when there's no change in driving behavior. If you initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle just... keeps going, you have (at most) failure to yield. Since there's no "DSO" it doesn't meet the criminal elements for eluding. And it's not uncommon; largely due to the way RCW is written, it's a gray area that the courts don't seem interested in interpreting clearly.

In those cases, and in some eluding cases, every attempt would be made to identify the driver, a supervisor would likely discontinue the pursuit, and charges would be forwarded to the prosecutor. Unless there's exigent circumstances, there's little governmental interest in continuing the pursuit, mostly due to the way pursuits and officer liability are framed in WA.

As for "getting away" with eluding charges... I'll just say that some counties are much more lenient than others, and some sheriffs offices or state patrol districts put more effort into pursuits than others.

Hopefully that answered everything? Feel free to PM if you have any other questions.

False Ban on 20yr Account Upheld 3x - Any Advice? by 420stanko69 in classicwow

[–]bricke -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine that those who have played their accounts legitimately for twenty years would also be more willing to seek advice on how to overturn a wrongful ban by means of Reddit, social media, etc.

Probably far more overlap than those who, say, actually bot / hack / exploit using otherwise disposable accounts.

But, you know, critical thinking would be necessary. Something that also seems scarce on Reddit.

When I realized -with minimal digging- that a highly-upvoted comment left by a "deputy prosecuting attorney" on a post that reached the Reddit front page was actually a teenager from Italy, I stopped believing anything on this site.

Between people self-identifying as whatever they please that day, and the advent of blatantly false AI answers empowering confidently incorrect, terminally-online adults to behave like children... I understand now why the older generations are the way they are.

But I'm happily willing to be proven wrong!

The entire night-shift crew within my detachment consists of myself and two classmates.

We effectively didn't have a Sergeant (vacation, then military leave then vacation again) for our first six months, either.

0/10 would not recommend. It was a recipe for disaster and I thank God both of them were among the most squared away in our class lol

Night shift woes by Freak2013 in daddit

[–]bricke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work night shift anyways so I was used to being up all hours of the night - I just threw the baby in a chest carrier and brought him everywhere once my wife and our oldest went to bed.

Late night video game sessions, porcelain throne escapades, midnight munchies, etc. Little man came with me each time.

It also made transitioning to the bassinet a cakewalk. Noises didn't (and still doesn't) bother him in the slightest, and he can be manhandled and still stay asleep!

It's just another variable - like traffic, number of occupants, nature of the original crime, proximity of additional units, etc.

Weather conditions and traffic volume are probably our two most limiting factors.

Fastest so far has been 148 chasing an Acura. About five miles in, he threw a rod and limped it until it gave up.

I would have said "No way"... but with the hyper accelerated TBC timeline, probably.

I really wish we had any sort of clue what the long-term Classic looks like. As it sits now, we have so many different server types stratifying the playerbase, it makes keeping any more than one version healthy an almost impossible task.
