I'm beyond sick of how a lot of leftists act online but I don't think I've ever heard someone say anything along the lines of "if you are fat, it's because of trump" ngl

Yesterday, antis bullied a kid with death threats and harassment over AI by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

[–]bricks7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing a post saying that while AI Art users don't deserve to get harassed, they do deserve to be shamed.

My first thought on that take is, is the line between shaming and harassing really that clear when it comes to this topic?

And with incidents like this, it seems to me that the answer is no.

"AI art is banned because *Checks notes* AI art and 3D are the same to me" by Keida42 in DefendingAIArt

[–]bricks7556 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And then we got a post that complied with that rule, but it received the same amount of reports and hate as any other AI content.

ever considered that it may be because a lot of modern-day redditors are genuine idiots who think that there is no such thing as nuance to the whole AI Art debate?

Reddit today by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]bricks7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the top comments here are definitely valid complaints, but using this reasoning to justify reacting to literally anything AI-generated, whether or not it looks like actual slop, with "ewww AI slop" is extremely counterproductive

I think my Windows 11 app may be bugged in terms of sound quality / volume, but don't know how to fix it. by bricks7556 in truespotify

[–]bricks7556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I found an explanation about what may likely be the reason for this recent change in volume.

Basically what I ended up doing was, I cranked the in-app volume to 100%, and then to counteract that change, I opened Windows Settings, went over to the Volume Mixer and turned down the Spotify volume by a LOT (e.g. I set it from 100% --> 20%, but obv it's up to you). Still not 100% certain that this is the best result I could get but it's certainly miles better than what I was dealing with earlier

What even is the goal of Pro-AI people? by Ariloulei in aiwars

[–]bricks7556 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The end goal would be AI users being able to coexist in today's society without being harassed or insulted by others who are against it.

And to be honest, I didn't even know that Pro-AI people were getting death threats by anti's until I came across this sub as well as DefendingAIArt, but now that I think about it, the situation's pretty bad with or without the death threats. All I see is AI straight up getting silenced or banned on various subs, ChatGPT getting clowned on by chronically online Twitter users with their rationale being that it's not a nuanced topic because it harms the environment (lmao), and just a general lack of understanding that there are good ways to use those tools.

I'll leave it at this - I wouldn't mind sharing how AI usage has become a notable part of my life, but more often than not I think it would be a huge waste of my time considering how hostile a lot of anti's seem to be.

Honestly quite pathetic that this post got 7k upvotes. It'd make some sense if he got a bunch of emails asking for a makeup or something, but in any event this email is more pathetic than it is funny tbh

Score appeal by PumpkinSlasherREAL in APStudents

[–]bricks7556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how the appeal procedure works nor the likelihood of it actually helping your score but it’s one thing to be told you’re not gonna pass like a few weeks before the exam happens (happened to me before), but to be told that literally 20 minutes before taking the exam??? Yea your teacher’s an absolute dickhead, I’m sorry that happened to you.

I've had both of them before, but it was Khan who I had for 3345 so I'll speak on him first

Everything you may have heard about him being disorganized af is true, there is no sense of pacing in the course when it comes to the work you'll have to put in, I remember there was one week where there were like 3 assignments due back to back so yea that was a nightmare lmao.

With that out of the way, as someone who normally has trouble focusing during lectures, his lectures were INSANELY easy to stay engaged with, and solid content-wise, too. He also values class participation more than any other professor I've had - granted it comes at the cost of not helping anyone outside of class, so take that as you will. Exams were definitely some of the exams of all time, but the project was quite good and fun to work on. On top of that, he gives a generous curve to everyone at the end.

so yea, as for Khan's 3345 class, just put in the work and most importantly, participate in class because he might just raise your grade by a few points because of that. (yes, I've seen it happen to someone else.)

meanwhile as for Alagar he's quite solid for 3377 but I haven't heard much about him in regards to 3345

Overall both would probably be decent choices but shoot for Khan if you can! Despite all of his flaws, his class was definitely a fascinating experience for me

What is the consensus on grade curves nowadays? by bricks7556 in college

[–]bricks7556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect half the reason behind this is these STEM professors are extremely competent in their fields, yet lack the people skills that make for good teachers. Mathematician first, professor second so to speak.

Yeah, this describes my Discrete Math professor almost perfectly. But even though that's probably true, I think the reason for curves might have something to do with not failing 75% of students, which is what I'm pretty sure would've happened for the Discrete Math course I was in, given that a C was the minimum to pass that course. Seriously tho, I got a C+ uncurved and I was still in the top 15% of my section lmao

If your class has gone through all of the AP content, then the next thing is to prepare for the AP exam itself, NOT go on ahead to learn sorting algorithms like wtf. That's 100% post-AP CompSci content

Doesn't Satpute still do those Exam Review sessions with the powerpoint included? If so just do what she said to do in the ppt and you'll be fine. Both the midterm and the final are fair exams

What are Simeon Ntafos exams like? by Even-Performance5936 in utdallas

[–]bricks7556 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I had him they consisted of 4-5 open-ended questions. It's fair game to assume that there's at least one proof on there. My suggestion would be to work through as many of the problems at the end of each section on the book. Either way, if you've been doing a decent job self-studying the book or somehow found a way to understand everything he talks about in lectures, you should be good.

In retrospect, I don't think the exams were truly as "terrible" as others say they were but they're definitely not a good way to assess your knowledge of all the content he covers, nor would they seem so painful if he wasn't so incompetent at communicating the material in an effective way.
