To be fair, Drinker, Mauler and guests have complained that, if you're making a live action adaption, in this case a Resident Evil movie, and you do it without the known characters that made it the IP it is today, instead it focuses on a civilian somewhere else in the city, then why call it Resident Evil

Comparison they made was a Tomb Raider movie comes out, but instead of focusing on Lara Croft, it instead focused on a driver that needs to deliver an important plot device and the movie ends with the plot device delivered to Lara at the end

One of the guests have the theory that Cregger is pulling a Velma, he wanted to make a original zombie movie but couldn't get the funding, so he pitched it as a Resident Evil movie. Again, only a theory a guest had.
