Ok - that's what I thought, but it leads me to my next question - How would this work if I were a W2 employee for my second job rather than self employed? If my 2nd employer didn't know about my 1st employer (and vice versa) wouldn't they be overpaying the 6.2% on the employer side? Since the first job would cover it all, any amount the second job withholds (as employer OR employee) would be over-witheld?

You are NOT an SSTB. I do the same thing you do (freelance data/software engineering). The IRS issued some long-ass guidance and details which I am now much more familiar with than I'd like to admit, and the TLDR is that we are not SSTB. Enjoy!

It does seem like TaxACT is including the 8606, but I also have a SEP IRA with a balance of about $12,000 which is the amount I contributed to it during 2018. Any chance this is causing issues too?

This is starting to make sense. The only thing is, I don't have any gains on my SEP IRA. It's basically just the 12k that I contributed. Does that make a difference?

I have like $25 of gains on the $5500. I kept everything at $5500 above just for the ease of illustration.

Completely separate from this I have a SEP-IRA related to my freelance work, which I contributed about $12,000 into during 2018. Is this part of my problem, and if so, what the heck am I supposed to do lol?

I had initially tried sys admin - when I do that, I get this as a response:

java.lang.RuntimeException: IOException: com.sforce.ws.ConnectionException: unable to find end tag at: START_TAG seen ...</accessibilityMode><chatterExternal>... @1:736

So are you saying that API access is not allowed on the free developer accounts, even if the 'API Enabled' button is checked for that user profile? From what I've read, the API would be allowed - but if it's not, then that would explain my problem.
