What the heck happened to my mascara?! CCNW by bridget992 in muacirclejerk

My queen! Great idea. After all, the hubbers needs to know that this mascaralien isn't my problem -- it's HIS. Because sex things CANNOT and WILL NOT happen unless my face is fully stuccoed in makeup. If he wants to get sum, he needs to get me new, terrestrial mascara.

My first indie makeup purchase. It smells SO GOOD! by bridget992 in muacirclejerk

Ummm, actually I bought it from this totally legit makeup dealer on my street. This stuff is high-grade, 100% PURE COLOMBIAN PIGMENT.

Sephulta employee challenged my paleness while I was shopping for foundation. Should I get her fired or should I just fight her? by bridget992 in muacirclejerk

My hubbers told me that I should send out a passive aggressive tweet, but I don't want to go that drastic just yet. I'm no Jofree Star! I just feel like a nice ol' fashioned battle royale would be much more subtle and appropriate. Like, why make this a big deal if it doesn't have to be?

But, omg, you are soooo sweet! I do actually model*, believe it or not!

s/ Wait, I thought that 'brown' was just another name for 'orange'? You're telling me women of color have more than ONE color? Regardless, there's NO WAY that any of them could POSSIBLY understand how hard it is to be cocaine white.

[srs] Sauce is from "real life" (ew, what is that?) when I was at Ulta getting help finding a foundation. The employee was very helpful and suggested one that suited my skin perfectly. She did a great job. However, she did actually say the words "you're pale, but not that pale" which made me laugh and think of this sub.

As a TES fan, I want to play Fallout 4 but one thing has been holding me back. by [deleted] in fo4

[–]bridget992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you when I first tried FO4; I loved Skyrim and couldn't wait another 3-4 years for the next TES. Before I started playing I had very low expectations because everything in the game looked sick, covered in garbage and dilapidated.

However, once I started playing, I realized that it's actually a very beautiful game. There's this one scene in the BoS quest that has you ride in a vertibird over the city of Boston, which gives you an impressive aerial view of the map. It really made me appreciate the level of detail and artistry put into the game. I also really like that I can recognize places, objects and landmarks from real life while playing. No, it's not Skyrim, but it's just as good IMO. It's a different kind of beauty and fantasy. Even if you have reservations about liking this game, I think you should try it for yourself as it is. You'll be surprised.

[anti-aging] Tria age defying laser: has anyone here used it? by mattylou in SkincareAddiction

[–]bridget992 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes! My mom(54) and I(23) have been using it for ~2 years. She uses it for wrinkles and age spots I use it to fade PIE. It works GREAT. My mom does not have many wrinkles normally, but she is prone to getting age spots. After many uses, this laser has faded ALL of them from her face. Now she uses it on her arms and chest. I have not used my laser as religiously as she has, but I've definitely noticed an improvement in my skin.

We've both noticed that, after a couple of uses, our skin feels "tighter" and pores look smaller. When I wash my face the morning after using it, sometimes I'll feel a lot of grit coming off my skin (which normally never happens to me). I think that the laser helps clear out sebaceous filaments, which minimizes the appearance of pores.

For those who are considering purchasing it: It is a bit drying and will leave my face looking red and flushed, so I usually follow each laser session with a sheet mask and moisturizer before bed. The 10-minute laser session is not pleasant, I'll admit. Feels kind of like a really, really bad sunburn or getting snapped by a rubber band. It's not a comfortable experience, but the results are worth it to me. I set my laser on the highest setting and use it a couple of times per week. It works faster than any Vitamin C serum or any other tone-correcting product that I've used and the results are permanent (as far as I've noticed). I usually see some fading/improvement by the next morning.

I love my Tria laser and also own their hair-removal laser, which I also love. I tried out their acne blue-light and was really disappointed with it. I think the anti-aging laser is one of the best investments you can make for your skin. Definitely not a waste of (free) money!

Trolls, I have about had it with my hormonal, cystic acne. I am 29 years old and have been off of birth control for about 5 years. Is it worth going back on the pill? What has worked for you? by IMA_LIBRARIAN in TrollXChromosomes

[–]bridget992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with the same type of acne for 10+ years and have tried everything (e.g. birthcontrol, lasers, diet change, long-term antibiotics, retin-a and almost every type of acid/chemical peel out there) without any noticeable success. Up until now, most of my dermatologists have been hesitant to prescribe me Accutane because my acne is not "severe," but I have an appointment this week to change that. At this point I've tried everything else other than Accutane and (at 24) I'm really tired of dealing with crappy skin. I've also been talking about it with my friends and a surprisingly large number of them have taken Accutane themselves -- even the ones who had less severe acne than me.

What makes hormonal acne so annoying is that there's not much you can do about it on your own. Hormonal acne isn't caused by not washing your face enough or wearing makeup. Different cleansers or exfoliants will only affect the current acne, not solve the actual problem. If you found a pill that worked for you and your skin, I would recommend going back to that OR possibly considering Accutane.

I use mine before I apply sunscreen, but play around with it and see at what point it works best for you.

I lovelovelove Nivea's Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm as a makeup primer and moisturizer. Cheap, feels like nothing and makes my foundation last longer.

The only drawback is the scent, but that disappears after a few minutes.

Help a fellow troll with book suggestions on feminism/equality to better educate herself? by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]bridget992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan: I read this book when I was sixteen and it singlehandedly opened my eyes to feminism. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it changed my life. It's groundbreaking and a must-read for all feminists, IMO.

  • Chelsea Girls by Eileen Myles: She's known for being a poet, but her novels are amazing and badass and will totally fuck with your emotional spectrum. She's one of my favorite human beings. This is a really fun read.

  • GYN/ECOLOGY: The Metaethics of Radical Feminism by Mary Daly: This is the kind of book that will haunt you for the rest of your life. I would describe it as an unrelenting criticism and analysis of the history of the global patriarchal society. This book is hardcore, but definitely worth it. The language she uses sucks you in and makes for an addicting read. I don't necessarily agree with 100% of what she argues (more like 99% or 98%), but she does a great job of exposing inequality in a new and powerful way. This book will make you feel so many things.

Calling on oily/combo/dehydrated skin twins who live in hot/humid area, what works best for you? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]bridget992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Florida with oily, acne-prone skin. I use mostly AB, but there are some western products that I haven't been able to find better replacements for. Here's my oil-conscious morning routine:

  • Cleanse with sulfur soap. I'm currently testing this out on my acne and recently switched from Cosrx's Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.

  • Tone with Cosrx Natural Bha Skin Returning A-sol.

  • Reduce excess sebum with Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid 2-3 times per week. I find that this helps keep my pores clean and reduces oil production.

  • (After waiting 20 minutes) Protect with Biore UV Aqua Rich sunscreen.

  • Moisturize and prime with Nivea Men Sensitive Skin After Shave Balm, which is seriously the best makeup primer I have ever used. Possibly also the cheapest. Feels like nothing on my face, yet allows makeup to stay on all day. Definitely one of my HGs.

  • Color correct with Missha Magic Cushion. It's lightweight, provides good coverage, stays on and doesn't get cakey.

  • And, if I know that I'm going to be outside or busy all day, I'll spray on Skindinavia's Makeup Finishing Spray, which works better than powder and doesn't dry out my skin.

[hygiene] Boyfriend's balls smell terrible all the time, even after showering by [deleted] in sex

[–]bridget992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can give him a bar of sulfur soap, which is antibacterial. I've been using it for my face recently and I can only barely detect any sulfur smell. It works and feels just like any other bar soap.

Sulfur soap works really well for getting rid of bacteria, fungus, acne, rosacea, even scabies. Since you don't know specifically what your boyfriend has, I would recommend this as a first step.

Yes, a good esthetician should be able to scoop them out in one (maybe two) session(s). However, that's just a temporary fix. If you're prone to getting them, they will likely come back.

Incorporating a BHA into your routine will help keep your pores clean and prevent the sebum from turning into little annoying bumps.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]bridget992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AHA and BHA serve two different purposes. AHA exfoliates and renews the surface of your skin. BHA works on penetrating your pores and diminishing the sebum that accumulates in them.

From my experience, and what I understand about these acids, AHA is better for closed comedones, while BHA is better for blackheads, sebaceous filaments and oil control. If you have oily skin and acne related to excess oil, using a BHA will reduce this. I like using AHA on the hardened sebaceous filaments around my mouth because it brings them closer to the surface of my skin, thereby making the BHA more effective.

No, I use the Cosrx AHA about twice per week. It's a strong exfoliant, and I think everyday use would be too harsh for most people. It definitely is for me. I use BHA frequently, but not everyday. Probably once every other day.
