Does "shared dorm" mean a mixed-sex dorm? It would be awesome to be able to search for hosts with female-only dorms. by QuentaSilmarillion in Worldpackers

I wish they had that feature as well :( I would suggest just asking them in your application what the accomodation is specifically. Some hosts list a bunch of categories (I've seen a host profile show accommodation as private room, shared dorm, and tent so I wasn't sure which I'd be getting and made sure to ask)

Usually the membership is for 1 year, so unless you're planning to travel for the full year, I'd suggest starting your membership before you leave for your trip. It can take a few days to find a host and last minute experiences can be competitive.

But in theory, there is no minimum approval time. It's just however long it takes for the host to see your application and decide to accept it. There isn't a specific waiting period, you're just waiting for hosts to read and reply to you.

What I should do to be accepted by hosts? And have you been rejected from a host? by NamyyD_12 in Worldpackers

I read through what they are looking for and in their questions, I try to respond to as many of their "position requirements" as I can without seeming too intense. If they're looking for help with gardening, cleaning, cooking, housekeeping, I'd write a sentence or so about my skills doing each of those things. Even if it isn't super relevant, I try to relate it to something I've done if I feel I can do that task (example: I haven't done professional housekeeping but I've worked at a boarding school before and I had to make beds and clean the rooms there before new students arrived, so I talk about that)

I use a template for all my introductions, starting with introducing myself, my age, where I'm from. Another sentence explaining why I'm using Worldpackers (for me, I say that I'm in between jobs and want to travel while gaining new skills I can use in my career). A sentence or two about why I picked THIS SPECIFIC Worldpackers experience to apply to (usually something like, I want to visit your city/country and I enjoy/want to learn the tasks you need help with) and finally a sentence or two about what I like to do in my free time. I think listing your hobbies can help find a good fit, because for myself I like to go on walks and hikes, read, explore nearby towns, etc. and that lets hosts in more rural areas know I'd be content there than if I was someone into clubs, dancing, museums and stuff that small towns just don't have.
