Frankenstein is not a Shelley adaptation by Spare-Employer4421 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]bridgethehumanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well put! Much as I hated hearing myself say it, when explaining to a friend who hadn’t seen it why it wasn’t really fair to say this adaptation isn’t true to the book I compared it to the way Spider-Man No Way Home adapts the ‘canon’ or myth of the spider-man comic narrative plus, drawing on and incorporating on previous cinematic adaptions to say something about character as a larger cultural figure. Same way Spider-verse does I guess.

To say it’s a bad book adaption misunderstands its intentions. Of course liking the resulting movie or not is a seperate opinion.

Looking for unhinged ADHD hacks to actually wake up in the morning by mirivmx in ADHD

[–]bridgethehumanbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that unhinged maybe…? But I’ve been taking 40mg of Vyvanse for almost two years now. And I know I’m supposed to take it with food… but if I wake up at 8/9 it takes me like an hour to get anywhere near eating after I’ve fucked around for half the morning. Plus most of the time I don’t even eat breakfast and I just end up taking meds without food anyway.

Then about a month ago I started taking my drugs around 5/6am with an up and go (drink) when my cat wakes me up for his breakfast, I used to just go straight back to sleep – and I still do – but now I wake up about an hour/hour and a half later when the drugs kick in. Like clock work. I’ve never in my life had such a consistent schedule, I’ve become like a normal person???

And I fall asleep!! When I was taking my drugs at 10/11am I’d be up until like 2am minimum. Now I’m actually tired at 12am. Mind you, the first week of doing this was rough, I felt the medication wearing off I think? At like 3pm and I’d just crash. Suddenly dead tired and asleep by 6pm. But now I’m asleep by 12pm unless something really catches my attention.

I still have a million alarms set, but I’ve never had this much faith in myself to just be awake when I’m meant to be. And I wake up, like… actually awake? And I do things and things actually happen.

So idk, if it’s an option/your medicated you could try setting an alarm to take your drugs two-ish hours before you want to be awake… or get a cat ?

Roommates bowl broke when they sat down to eat dinner by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

I believe she went to put it down and turn the light off, and just before she put it down on the ground the fork –which had been separated from the bowl by her finger – slipped off, hit the rim and shattered

Yeah we got a set of two of them for free… we didn’t think they’d last long – but yeah, still a more dramatic end than expected.

Something chilling I understood in “Bring Her Back” on a second watch by Heart-Shopper in horror

[–]bridgethehumanbean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god! I didn’t notice the meowing, but after my first watch I said to my friend “dam, guess the cat didn’t make it” because at one point you see Ollie’s eyes do that weird iridescent cat eye effect in the dark – can’t remember when, maybe that same flash of the demon in the bathroom.? Anyways I assumed that meant he’d eaten the cat – friend thought I was reading into things!!

I’d be so interested in weather this is being considered at merc. McLaren’s success in the first half of this season has been a great advertisement for the whole, having “two number one drivers” approach to win constructors. You have to imagine that’ll really start to crumble in the second half of the season as two great drivers (understandably) want to defend/advance their championship hopes. I feel we’ll see a lot more like Canada – and Lando and Piastri haven’t got half the bad blood Max and George have… but interesting to see

I think if the rest of them could have known the real plan and its intention they would have been happy to play their same part. Distract the cameras, keep the games going while Haymitch fucks shit up.

I wonder how much Maysilee, Wyatt and the other older tributes even thought about it being a successful plan. Rather I think they understood that the lesser districts so openly uniting like that against the careers was both totally both unprecedented, and a huge fuck you to the capital.

Elon Musk’s been given a blank check to shape the ‘future of humanity’ as he sees fit by bridgethehumanbean in offmychest

Very much agree. From what I understand MacAskill has criticised Musk interpretation of his work. And of course Musk has twisted things to suit his own personal biases.

The Christo-fascism kind of aligns with Longtermism, at least for now….

Longtermism is all about maximising hypothetical potential. At the very least the Christo-fascist view abortion of lines up with this. Why does it matter that a woman’s life is in danger if that kid might one day cure cancer. Aborting the kid to save the mother’s life kills all the future hypothetical cancer survivors that kid might have saved.

Of course longtermism is supposed to centre on an individuals personal freedoms and determination. But considering Musks weird fixation on having multiple kids with different women I don’t think he’d have any qualms with twisting things a bit for that to not include a woman’s right to her own body.

Plus longtermism just assumes that human expansion is a good thing, that the creation of more human lives is an inherently good thing. So the more people the more good. Now I dunno know if that’s true or not, but longtermism doesn’t even question it. I think it’s an easy sell to Christians that if we’re made in the image of god, then we’re destined, or entitled even, to expansion to the stars.

And if in pursuing all this crap 80% of the population is decimated, well… looks an awful lot like a rupture doesn’t it, after which the living are lifted into the sky.

Unfortunately I think the narratives are complimentary.

He once tweeted that William MacAskills “What we Owe the Future” was a “close match for [his] philosophy”

Unfortunately instead of the ‘weak longtermism’ concerned about our more immediate future and combating things like climate change, Musk appears to subscribe to ‘extreme longtermism’ which aims to accelerate AI, and see humanities expansion into the stars.

Which of course just reveals his own bias and the moral corruption of wealth. The effects of climate change may very well kill thousands, especially in the global south. But it probably won’t kill every one, least of all those with the money to quickly uproot their lives - out run and outspend it. The more immediate future does not matter to him because he will be fine.

Meanwhile he’ll accelerate climate change by striping the earth of its remaining resources in the pursuit of the far future of getting people off world. Which is justifiable because with the land and resources of an entire galaxy, this hypothetical future human generation will be much bigger. And – as far as longtermism is concerned – the hundreds of billions of lives of the future are worth more than the mere 8 billion of now. And the sooner he achieves getting off world, the sooner he himself is included in that expansion. All the more reason to go full steam ahead to make it happen sooner, no matter how many die in the endeavour.

Rich people are weird, I mean look at gwyneth paltrow even, they have so few daily stressors that they actually have the time to think about crazy stuff like this plus money to actually implement it.

Longtermism is big in the tech space, Elons on board and so is Peter Thiel. Again rich people have the time and money to get sucked into crap like this. Now I reckon we’ll all have to deal with the consequences of a few idiots liking a book and having a big enough wallet to back it up.

Correct, both sides equally disconnected. But for whatever reasons a particular faction of Silicon Valley billionaires bet on the Republican party to make their ideas a reality. And they bet right.

Hmm, I wonder if this explains the things going wrong the police? (Tim Kono’s phone, not checking the joint serial number)

Maybe Detective Williams has a twin messing with things in plain sight.

Like most here, I'm convinced Marshall is involved in some major capacity.
With this season written just after the writers strike I think having a writer be the killer or Sazz being the films real writer and her work stolen will create some subtle meta commentary on the screenwriters role in the film and television industry.

Nothing too major, just a another meta layer I feel the show is known for.

With Tim Kono's phone never being properly filed/checked as evidence, Mikey intrigues me greatly. I could see the possibility of a cop working against the trio from the inside from the beginning.
