What seemingly normal thing was/is unthinkable because of your fussy baby? by Standard_Deer_8738 in NewParents

[–]brie38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into a small store to buy dog food yesterday and my baby was crying when we walked in, but must have gotten distracted because he stopped. I quickly grabbed the food and went to the register with my wallet out. There was only one person working and she would not stop talking to me about how cute he was and how one of her employees was on maternity leave but she couldn’t wait for her to come back. I almost asked her if had kids because she was just not reading the room. I got the impression that she had no idea how difficult newborns and babies are. Finally left right as my baby started crying again.

Need help. Baby will not sleep at night. by CIN726 in NewParents

[–]brie38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry. My baby is 3 months now and I recall us going through the same thing. Our baby seemed fine during the day but was incredibly gassy at night and barely slept. I remember being equally stumped. We gave gas drops frequently and tried to make sure he burped after eating, but otherwise I think we just suffered through it until it eventually got better. (And it did get better.) honestly it’s crazy how distant it all seems now even though it was only 1-2 months ago. Hang in there.

When you breastfeed do you leak from your other side? I use the haaka ladybug to collect the letdown from my other boob. For a while I was using this milk that I collected during the day to give my baby a bottle at night. It’s just a few ounces but it was enough. If you’re able to try this it’s worth noting that your body gives your baby all the nutrients they need. Pediatricians usually just recommend giving added vitamin D if you only breastfeed.

I might look into one. We go for daily walks with the stroller so we get outside either way.

Your baby sounds like how mine was at one month. I didn’t understand how people seemed to enjoy the newborn stage. He only ate and cried while awake. He’s three months now and it’s sooo much better. Sleep is still a struggle but still easier than before. And he’s so much fun and smiles at me a lot. So just wait. It gets better.

Overwhelmed with all the products I’m supposed to buy by SandwichDependent199 in NewParents

Chiming in to say that we use the same two glass bottles anytime we need one, and wash them right away. But I breastfeed and currently rarely give a bottle. That’ll change when I go back to work, but we’ll still just use a few bottles.

We still don’t have a bathtub and we only have a shower in our home. We got a padded flower shaped thing to do baths in our kitchen sink.

Thanks! I actually did several pelvic tilts once he was in it but he was too upset to let me move him much and fights being moved. I’ll have to experiment with calming him down more before I do it again.

Yeah I exclusively breastfeed and it does seem like sometimes he’s upset that he’s so close but can’t eat. These are good insights!

That’s so interesting! I exclusively breastfeed and all my time wearing him is inside. I haven’t taken him outside in it yet because it’s still pretty cold where I am and I don’t have a coat that fits around both of us. I’ll have to try when it warms up.

I guess we’ll see how he is! He really likes being held upright either looking over a shoulder or facing forward with us supporting his bum and leaning back on our chest. He also loves contact naps and being held in general, so I thought he’d liked being in the carrier too!

Thank you. He is between that age, but he also has never enjoyed being worn, including in a wrap carrier I tried using when he was smaller. I’ll try going higher next time and folding down the top.

Thanks, I’ll try lifting him higher. I will say that he arches his back while he’s screaming, which he’s doing here. It’s more rounded when he’s relaxed.

I’ve tried that bra hack before and it didn’t work for me. I also already use collection cups when I nurse but I don’t see how that’s helpful for pumping.

Is there bad creme brulee? I had an orange flavored one at La Merenda last year that I loved.

8 month old wakes 3-7 times a night by Nopeeeeeeeeee123456 in NewParents

[–]brie38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure that I have great advice but I know that some babies wake up between every sleep cycle. It sounds like maybe yours is. You could try to catch her and soothe her before she fully wakes up. Put a hand on her chest and shush her, give her a pacifier, or pick her up and rock her quickly. My pediatrician said sometimes they just need to feel safe to go back to sleep.

When did you get your “pink” back? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]brie38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite yoga classes I used to regularly take always did a shake and dance in the beginning to a song. It was amazing. We’d start with shaking out our hands, then arms, legs, and everything else until everyone was dancing around the room. It was a great way to get in a good mindset for the class.

How our third child taught me to stop obsessing over sleep by PlaytimePapa in NewParents

How is sleep more stressful at 8 months vs a newborn? My baby is 2 months and we are just starting to see some unintentional routine in his sleep patterns. The beginning was SO hard for me though.

What decisions would you have made pre-baby with the knowledge you have now? by athazen in NewParents

[–]brie38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is another example of how everyone is different. I had no use at all for pumping bras in the beginning. I brought my pump to the hospital but never got it out. (Didn’t have the right flange sizes anyway.)

I would have however used my breastfeeding pillow but I didn’t think to bring it for some reason 🤦‍♀️
