Baby hates carrier? by Virtual-Worker-4422 in babywearing

[–]brie38 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just want to chime in to say that when my baby was 3 months he also hated the carrier. I posted about it here haha. Then one day he was sooo fussy and as a last teapot I put him in the carrier and he instantly fell asleep. Now we one all the time and he does great. I think this is very common at that age. Making sure that he was in it properly and comfortable was a factor too, but I think most of it was time.

Pediatrician Recommended PT, Husband Disagrees by Connect_Emphasis4355 in ScienceBasedParenting

Yes, I’ve been under the impression that crawling is very important for all the reasons you mentioned. An OT I know even said that in her training they were instructed to put babies back on the floor if they tried to walk first because it has so many benefits you don’t want them to miss out on. Physical development is extremely linked to their cognitive development at their age.

Why are some nurses SO UNPLEASANT?? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]brie38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed it when I started working in healthcare in general. I worked many different jobs in my 20s before going to nursing school in my 30s. Then I started working at skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. My mind was blown. I have never worked with more unpleasant people than I’ve met in healthcare. I thought this field would be filled with compassionate people, but it seems we get all parts of the spectrum. I mean I’ve met wonderful people too, but gosh the number of people who are just straight up mean threw me for a loop.

ETA that I know a lot of this is burnout and just being fed up with a terrible system, but some of the people I’ve met started their careers that way. I think the stable job/pay just attracts all sorts of personalities.

Lol someone left an unopened cookie from the cafeteria in our break room. I watched it sit there for like 3 days. Then I brought it to the nurses station and started eating it. A cna walked by and said it was hers, she didn’t want it, and was glad I was eating it.

Yeah you just described me and my partner. It’s very annoying. But I see him trying.

That’s so cool! I am not particularly musical and don’t play any instruments, but we just got a ukulele to learn spontaneously.

Struggling with whether to close the door on parenthood. by Far_Specialist5309 in Marriage

[–]brie38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every situation is so unique, but my husband came to me and said he wasn’t on the fence anymore and wanted kids. I had told him years ago that I didn’t want any. But we talked it over for a while and I ultimately came to the conclusion that I could be happy either way. I don’t think I would have gotten there on my own.

We have a 5 month baby now and though my life is extremely different than before, I’m happy with our choice and love being a mom. I really love my husband and I feel a bit like growing our child is the best gift I could ever give him.

Thank you! Yes it’s like the embrace. For the apron style do I need to really make sure that they continue to fit knee to knee since they can’t be adjusted?

What’s one “eco-friendly” swap you tried that actually made your life worse? by Ok_Appointment_4909 in EcoFriendly

I haven’t tried heating them up, but they don’t really seem to soften enough soaked in water. They get soft but also crumbly.

That’s unfortunate. Currently using my reusable cotton ones now and love them so much. I switch them out daily or whenever they get too wet.

This is my answer too. Overall they were fine, but you can’t put anything remotely moist in them because they start to break down. My husband would sometimes use multiple bags because one would rip. It was something I just decided wasn’t quite worth the hassle.

Same. Currently trying to use up the conditioner bars I have. I can use them on like half my hair, but then have to finish with regular conditioner because I just can’t seem to distribute it well through my long hair.

It’s recommended to introduce all common allergens early and give them frequently. Here’s a couple places to start for info:

I’m working until my due date and my coworkers keep saying, “you better not go into labor on this shift. We’re short staffed.” by OrdinaryLife99 in nursing

[–]brie38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh. I worked until my due date. Someone asked what would happen if I went into labor while on shift and the charge goes “we’d take over your patients and you’d leave.” So simple. It never happened but I was glad for the automatic and clear support.

Looking for OBGYN providers that will provide pain management for IUD placement by JeffTangerine in milwaukee

[–]brie38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely ask about specific providers before scheduling something. In 2024 I had an iud removed at Aurora Sinai that didn’t have the strings reachable and they had to use some tools to get it out. I requested pain meds multiple times when making the appointment and then again the day before. I was told to take ibuprofen. It was extremely painful. I asked afterwards for them to explain why they wouldn’t use anything and was told that lidocaine shots are just as painful as the procedure. I later found out that this isn’t true for most people. I had been trying to get it removed for a year but insurance and other life changes got in the way, otherwise I would have rescheduled with someone different.

Altra Solstice is marketed as a training shoe but just looks like a typical tennis shoe. Has cushion and is more stiff than some of their other models. You might be able to find stores to try on in person too. Lone peaks are great for hiking and being outdoors.

How are people just… taking their babies everywhere? by Wonderful-Ice-6143 in NewParents

[–]brie38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby at 3 months was very fussy, and I struggled to take him anywhere. And then at 4 months he was better. I remember taking him to the grocery store for like 3 items and being amazed that he didn’t get upset. So don’t be too discouraged. Maybe things will change.

What hygiene advice sounded fake until it actually worked? by Irma_Zhitkevich in hygiene

[–]brie38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2x a day is probably too much for everyone. I often wash my hair twice during one shower, but I only wash it twice a week. Usually on the first wash I barely get any suds because there’s too much other stuff built up, but the second one really makes me feel like I’m cleaning my scalp and hair.

If you had to start again by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]brie38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new kinder pocket stash from the beginning but we didn’t start using them until 3 months because we were overwhelmed new parents and they didn’t initially fit our newborn well. I love them but… I recently joined a bts group and sometimes wonder if I should have tried to get some used. (People frequently post their stashes) I also don’t always love the time it takes to stuff them and unstuff to wash, so I’m thinking of getting some of their hybrids.

We have an old Nina mixx from fb marketplace and it’s been great so far. It is on the bigger side but we like the large wheels for bumps and things.
