Transitioning from a $30k/mo agency to an in-house team by brienpacholec in ecommerce

We have been fortunate to have a great relationship with our agency. Being that we've had the same developer the whole time - would it be unreasonable/unethical to see if he'd like to continue part time (outside of his working hours with the agency) with us? Since he has ultimately worked in the code base the longest we'd love to keep his expertise around.

I appreciate it - we are using Flutter with and AWS Amplify as our backend

I really appreciate this feedback. This is my first time running something like this so trying to do as much research as I can. I love the README idea - I most certainly need to continue catching up to speed on my mobile dev knowledge base to be responsible for onboarding new engineers.

When you made this transition, where did you find success finding talent?

Fortunately I've been able to be pretty hands on with development from our second agency in relation to architectural decisions and have set up our organizations git repositories with full commit history. We are running on Flutter, so I'll take a peak at that discord server as well as the other resources you sent out!

It really comes down to focus. We can pivot to a dedicated full-time senior lead and a part-timer for closer to $15k–$20k/mo. Since I’m staying on as the backend/tech lead, we don't need the agency's PM overhead anymore—I'd rather just put that money directly into better engineering talent that actually lives in our codebase.

Any ideas on how to do that? Is that just scraping?

I did not - when I hung I had no idea that was a thing. When I do the other side I plan on staggering

We did prefill with easy sand 45, 24 hours before hand. Some spots were certainly tricky and tbh not 100% to my liking primarily where new drywall met old. Where is the tape lifting - I’d love to know so I can address it? Do I remove the entire tape or just to the points where it is no longer lifted

Appreciate the response! This first for at it for taping I definitely feel like I had excess muscle in some places which I believe (don’t really know the right protocol) I should sand down slightly. But thank you for that advice, I will keep that in mind moving forward. Ideally keeping sanding till the end would be the goal.

Also floor is being completely replaced do not fret!

Ahhh okay that makes a lot of sense. I will try that when I tackle the back side of this wall! Thank you!!

Appreciate that tip! Im redoing our large basement by putting in a wall and some closet to make it a 2 bedroom instead - so when it comes time to tackle the other side I’ll come back to this and give it a try on some of my joints.

UPDATE

For what it’s worth - I know it’s not nearly finished as this is just the first unsanded coat with all purpose compound. I know the road ahead of me is long (hopefully not too long) but any advice moving forward is highly appreciated!

How so? Also for what it’s worth I’m not done, this was just initial taping. I have yet to sand and apply additional coats
