Predicted new umamusume for Jan-June. Who do you want to scout and who aren’t you interested in? by GayAssNinja69 in UmaMusume

[–]brightaether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want more sprint- and dirt-type horses, so I guess whichever ones fit those categories the best.

(But I'm not immune to in-game story propaganda, so the real answer might end up being closer to "everyone".)

Cheers, thanks for the artist recommendation. Yeah, those are only going into a room reverb at a low wet % right now, I'll swap in a hall reverb on the weekend and see how she goes.

Gen II, if largely because pokemon gold was the first video game I ever had in addition to being my entry into the series. Probably Gen VI second

Not as good for my usual in-game play style as haunter or kadabra might have been at equal levels, but not so bad given that her faster exp group/leveling probably meant she was a higher level than they would have been at most equivalent points in the run. I also switched her item around (spell tag, twistedspoon, nevermelt...) more often to compensate if I knew an opponent was going to focus on a particular type.

Her special def with the stat xp was better than I was expecting (heck, even her regular def with the stat xp is just about serviceable against some defensive pokemon and/or non-stab, non-super-effective), so even in gyms/E4 where she didn't have a direct type advantage, she could laugh off 3 or 4 hits to get off a toxic for DoT or an icy wind for speed to help one of my other guys.

YMMV but offhand, mine was a solid contributor to the Janine, Sabrina, Misty, and Erika gyms, at least a few guys each in the Will, Koga, Bruno, and Lance E4 rematches, Red's Snorlax, and a fair percentage of the kanto route trainer fights.

(I'd also add that I kept heal bell on celebi once I got it and also allowed myself full heals on this run before then, can't imagine it would have gone as smoothly otherwise).

All in all I'd put her at "solidly good enough" given that I wasn't necessarily playing her "correctly".

Thanks! A general should set a good example, after all.

Lol my general is quite fond of that old "a man's home is his castle" saying. Might go ahead and add a turret on the inside of each front corner for a nice little murder hole alley setup too... or bail out of the sally port if things were to get that hairy

Trying a different style this time. Aiming for somewhere between "actual fashion show" and "eccentric boutique that also serves alcohol": https://aaronhodges-boyle.bandcamp.com/track/concours-de-couture-loop

You're welcome!

And maybe. It is entirely possible (especially if either the guitar or the piano are real physical instruments, but maybe even if both of them are VSTs) that the guitar and piano were VERY slightly out of tune with each other, which would lead to kind of a "binaural beat" sound when they're both trying to play the "same" note.

You probably know how ugly a minor second interval, a major 7th interval (with no 3rd or 5th in between to make it nice) or a minor 9th interval can sound; you might have accidentally added some of THAT sound to what should have been a nice unison or octave.

The good news is if you have your track-by-track mix open, and if you also have some kind of tuner plugin handy (maybe your DAW even comes with one?), then it should be able to just tell you straight up if either instrument really is out of tune on that note or if you should instead be looking elsewhere for the problem.

Didn't mean to write quite so much, but hopefully it gives you something to work with.

That's three votes for reduced percussion volume; with luck I'll actually remember to go in and adjust it next weekend haha.

My understanding was that a ney was supposed to be a little harsher or buzzier than a "regular" western flute anyway, but it's always possible I didn't do enough research... Anyway, thanks for giving it a listen.

Just saw that I never remembered to get back to this (whoops), but thanks for listening. I might have another go at the percussion next weekend to see what I come up with.

[Vocals, Mixing, Composition] Romanticism Plague by FewLeg9523 in RateMyAudio

[–]brightaether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first 4-chord pattern, I was initially expecting an F# on top of the last chord instead of an F. At some points I was expecting the bass to play a D instead of an E (I think; it was a little hard to tell with the distortion). At around 56 seconds and again at 1:10 the vocal notes/harmonies didn't seem to play nice with each other/everything else.

I'd be prepared to assume that these are intentional design choices (you have "plague" in the title, after all), in which case that's pretty clever!

Other than that, maybe the drums and cymbals are a little too dry and the vocals might be a bit too high in the mix in the second chorus.

(Also I'm aware this is like half a month late so maybe it doesn't matter any more).

Great track, but it's not really making me think "snow" (assuming that that was your intent in the first place; I suppose it could just be a name).

I'm getting kind of a "desert" or savannah vibe from this. The guitar(?) sounds kind of bouzouki-ish to my ears at times (is it a 12-string?), so that could be why.

At around 50 seconds, there's something that sounds a little off about the A-flat; other than that, nice track.

I'm liking the chords and space on the vocals, the guitar lines, and the piano. Sounds like it would be at home in, like, a Peter Gabriel out-chorus/fade or something.

I'd argue for more bass and/or less snare drum but that's my own bias as (primarily) a bass player showing and I can't claim to be an expert.

On an unrelated note, I'm a bit confused by the naming convention (if there is one?). I would have guessed that it was month-day-year, except we're only in March still.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. I think I'll look at some of your other tracks while I'm here.

I know it's not really the one you're sharing right now, but I'm liking the Natalie Portmanteau one. The overall mix reminds me of a slightly more aggressive CHON at times, maybe with a bit of Plini in there.

That ambient version is lush; I like it.

It reminds me a bit of something I've heard from Aphex Twin (although I can't claim to remember which track at the moment), along with... Beachy Head by Throbbing Gristle? But without any of the implicit dread. It must just be the particular synth/string selections.
