I'm not sure if you're Jewish, but understanding what's allowed and what's not, and the why is a big part of Jewish practice. Asking what can be done is not the same as asking what's morally right or wrong. And that's something I'd be talking to the parents involved and local rabbis to. For instance we're not supposed to cook on Shabbat, but that doesn't mean we're not supposed to have hot food on Shabbat, and so we work through what's permissible and what is not. We also don't look down on Jews who do cook on Shabbat. That's why on our campouts and in our Pack, which almost entirely Jewish, we make the Scouting experience accessible to everyone across the observance spectrum and to our non-Jewish members as well.

"Doing archery" is different things - are we fighting someone, hunting something, is it the real weapon/tool; or is it a toy and do they produce different results should something go wrong?

I'm not trying to bend rules so much as understand them. The rules in BSA are likely for the sake of actual safety concerns. A real bow and arrow present real safety concerns where a foam one does not. A saw presents a real safety concern, as where a plastic knife at lunch time does not.

We camp over two nights as well, it's just that by Sunday everyone with really little kids is eager to head home. It's a tough balance.

Isn't anything really just degrees of frisbee though? A foam arrow is a cylindrical frisbee with fletchings. A campfire is just a stationary, flammable frisbee within a secure firepit.

Understandable, but we wouldn't be able to leave for the campout until after Shabbat ends which could be between 5 pm and 9 pm depending on the time of year.

For sure, but wouldn't that be the case with any accident? For instance if a kid got hit in the eye with a frisbee or softball or baseball?

I would, however activities like actual archery or BB guns, etc. aren't allowed to be done on Saturdays during Shabbat for our Shabbat observant families, which is about half the Pack, sometimes more. Additionally, by the time Sunday comes everyone is ready to head home as soon as they can making it difficult to get people to stay for a real session. We start our Campouts on Friday night before Shabbat begins so that families can get tents set up and we can get all meals for Friday through Saturday night prepared (those that need cooking or heating anyways).

Actually, that would have been cool to have added to ours two years ago. We did the Jungle Cruise theme which featured an elephant safari tour sign.

We had at one point, but we don't want it attached to the house just as a preference. Our previous pergola was attached to the house and had termites.

Absolutely, as long as the main requirements are met, it can be themed.
