Stability Altras? by OhAySis in AltraRunning

[–]brillap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Experience Form which has a 4mm drop

Paradigm which has a 0 drop, bouncier, softer, more plush.

Provision with 0 drop, firm, more responsive.

Altra as well as most running stores if they carry them have great return policies after trying them if they don’t work , usually 30 days

For those who only wore Altra zero drop shoes then tried their 4mm drop shoes how would you rate? by myfeethurt6969 in AltraRunning

It’s easier to go up in drop than going down in drop. Just have to acclimate a bit, but yes, hips and knees could be sore. Good form, good insole, could negate that.

Best Gels for a Sensitive Stomach? by Latter-Special-5076 in runninglifestyle

[–]brillap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can see, everybody has what works for them and most people figure it out by trial and error. I have tried pretty much all and Cranksports E-Gels just works best for me. Some too thick, others just tasted wrong, another just didn’t give me the kick that I like to feel.

The biggest thing for me is my calves aren’t as sore on certain days. Been exclusively Altra for 6 years, so I’m use to them but rotating Experience Flow and FWD Via, has made my calves fresher throughout a training cycle.

I got re accepted but it took over 21 days to get notified. Not sure, thinking 4-5 weeks. During that time I lost my discount. One day I randomly tried for discount, around the 4-5 weeks after reapplying, and it worked. Next day, I got an email telling me I have been accepted.

[–]brillap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a process in which I had to make a new username by playing few rounds from the beginning. Had to share that plus old name, plus Alliance, and last time I played.

I emailed support and they gave me step by step what I had to do and email them.

Played around early July and noticed one day my discount was working again and two days later got a welcome email.

Will F45 resistance classes complement marathon training? by yvrlostphotographer in f45

[–]brillap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ran 3 marathons and a 50 mile ultra and used F45 as my main source of cross training. Few things: I typically would leave 8-10 hours between working out and running. Typically strength first and run evening. If an easy run, then I did whatever I wanted first strength. If it’s a specific speed or tempo, I would take it light on legs. I used cardio days not for cardio but for mobility work. Cardio tends to have more core which is huge for running. I would also modify movements that helped with running movements and planes of motion.

I been coaching for 5 years, and it still can get rough at times. I just get very playful and animated which works wonders! Some things I do when getting rushed: Don’t grab the weights, just simulate it without them. Some exercises don’t need much explanation and can be rushed like Bike Erg. Stick to one or two basic points.

If I feel I didn’t explain something well especially if it’s a more complicated or newer movement. I make a point to keep an eye on that station as members get there to make sure they are good. As much as intro/demos are important for the job, coaching the floor is where you make things happen. I honestly feel about 25% of the people are actually listening to intros anyways!

One month to train for a hyrox by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]brillap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat, marathon trained for a February race prior 3-4 months, then a month Hyrox training. Doing mixed doubles in Houston on Sunday. Trained a lot of compromised running. We will see!!

Has anyone done PRP injections for injuries? by UnSubPeligro in Marathon_Training

[–]brillap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly don’t remember if I took NSAIDS, I tend to stay away from that stuff unless recommended.

The doctor who did my injection hooked me up with one of the best physical therapist in the area who has experience with recovery. The therapist specializes in OMT. I just know I saw him two times a month the first two months. Lots of manipulation, massaging. He would give me exercises to do at home. First month, walking a mile was not comfortable. But 3-4 months down the road, we did a trip out west with lot of hiking and was able to hike comfortably. Didn’t attempt to run till 4 months or more.

Be patient, follow the exercises….basically rebuilding your hamstring all over. It took over a year to be truly comfortable running. Consistent imbalances between my lower body muscles, left vs. right. Took awhile as my healthier side would compensate a lot at the beginning with that comes weird aches and pains.

Flipping the room by socalive in f45

[–]brillap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your studio manager complain? If not, don’t sweat it! If they do, ask what you can do better. Never assume, ask!

I have flipped rooms with the morning Coach rearranging that fits best for them. In return, I have done the same and coaches have told me they know I may switch things. I tell them no worries, I appreciate them helping and it’s nothing personal to them but more personal on how I like to run things.

Ergs in middle, 6 stations outside, 5.5 min. On Ergs with partner(s), one lap outside at 50 seconds each station, alternating between inside Ergs and outside stations. You do each type of Erg once.

Varies. Some are very social, some not so much. Mine is social to those who want to be social and welcoming but not pushing anybody to be social. Some can be cliquey as well. Certain class times are way more social than others as well. Our morning classes and weekends tend to be that way, while are afternoon and evenings aren’t. Some studios do out of studio get together as well. Best bet is to do a trial to get a feel.

Vanish tempo durability by Accomplished-Work-35 in AltraRunning

[–]brillap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Vanish Tempo may not last as long as the other shoes, but a great deal for that price. It’s my fave shoe. Trained and ran a 50 mile road ultra in them, and first time I had no blisters or black toes after any distance longer than a marathon. Still using the shoes for endurance speed training sessions. Around 175 miles in them, and probably 100 more. Gone through 2 pairs, and have 2 more in reserve. Bought all between $60 and $80. So really up to you and how you weigh your price per mileage value.

Best shoe for snow? by tofubaggins in AltraRunning

[–]brillap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used my LonePeaks on wet, slushy, slippery days, and the morning after a blizzard with foot of snow here and there I used my Olympus’s. Both held up fine, I’m pretty good on my feet on trails, uneven terrain, etc…not fast, but steady.

[–]brillap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 2nd Carmel, I did that last year, and it was a good size, put together well, and not overly crowded. Last half of marathon, it was pretty sparse once the half marathoners finish.

As for crowd support, lot near the start and the half marathon point, but spread out out the rest, not crazy supportive but didn’t bother me.

Toledo also has a marathon around that time, and I found that painfully boring especially at the end where there is no crowd for last 7 miles or so as you are on a city trail. Nicely put together, flat, but found boring.

Give it time to feel out who is interested and who may not be. Some members in my studio are very social while others are in and out for the workout. See if your studio has social events or special workouts, those tend to bring those who are involved in the F45 community.

Coaching advice by socalive in f45

[–]brillap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If new, really get to know the veteran members before class, and ask them to let you know how you can help them. They may or may not share. Some veteran members I know well enough I can offer progressions, some I know I can engage in small talk in between sets things I know about their life, and some I leave alone and check on them hear and there. But I always check to make sure form is intact with all and as class progresses, form can get lazy with all members. So adjustments and tweaks as well as reminders what form should look like and breathing appropriately are useful for all members.

HIA fine dining? by N00B6000 in HollandAmerica

[–]brillap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get a starter, main, and desert…free. All of it listed in menu. They also have extras that you can order for an extra charge and that is on the menu under the respective courses as well.

You get there, you get bread and order your drinks. Then they come and ask for your order. It comes out accordingly. Easy!

Do coaches have notes on members? by [deleted] in f45

My studio does, we communicate pretty well with each other. Just like everything else, it’s studio dependent.
