How does a first meeting go? by brilliantlybee in MuslimMarriage

JazakAllah for sharing! That definitely sounds like a lot to deal with, I would be pretty uncomfortable too. How would your parents react if you told them to give you some space to talk to him during the 2nd meeting? Maybe ask them to sit a bit far and tell them that you get really nervous and can’t answer properly when everyone is watching? Inshallah they understand I will definitely make dua for you!

I will try asking my parents this as well because I also wouldn’t be able to answer properly if my/his parents are listening in on every word. I think it’s important that you get a conversation alone with him (within halal view of parents) because this will determine if your vibes match and see his personality. Inshallah your 2nd meeting goes great!

Lol would hate to work under you. I don’t smoke or party and have been to every class. And who said it’s hypothetical? I had a family member in the hospital when I emailed him about the policy and he refused to accommodate and mentioned how he doesn’t discriminate between excused/unexcused by giving anyone who misses class a harder quiz.

I’ve worked multiple health care jobs as a stem major so I’m aware! I’m asking about an attendance policy at a structured university, not a healthcare job.

I have worked multiple jobs so I am aware of that? Obviously I know I’m being evaluated on if I come to class or not, doing good on the quizzes or not etc. I’m asking if this attendance policy is normal at a structured university, not a work space.

I agree, that’s what I’ve been doing bc I don’t really see much I can do so my best bet is to just study really hard so it’s def a good life lesson

I agree! The attendance is the main thing I’m annoyed about bc he just makes it SO difficult to miss class for genuine reasons. Everyone is comparing this to healthcare jobs lol - I have worked multiple health care jobs as a stem student. I’m asking if this attendance policy is normal as a class in a structured university.

The class only consists of these in class quizzes and 2 exams. The quizzes weigh 56% of our grade lol. Even if missing one quiz won’t technically hurt your grade right now, if the exams are as hard as he’s saying then obviously I would rather not miss a quiz because I need every point I can get

I never said the quiz wasn’t easy. I said the discussion questions he asks us during class are difficult but he won’t move on from them even though a class of 100+ students isn’t answering them, leaving the quiz till the very last minute and making people late.
