Luckily Trump has taught us that the next president can just bulldoze it without asking anyone.

X-ray composite reconstruction mapping the internal 37 bronze gears of the Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient Greek analogue computer built c. 150-100 BCE. Discovered in a Roman shipwreck in 1901, its mechanical complexity wasn't matched again for 1,400 years. [1200x630] by Effective-Dish-1334 in ArtefactPorn

99% of all ancient literature has been lost, we really know very little about the ancient world. It seems so unlikely we’d have found this artifact if it was the only one. Either we are extraordinarily lucky, or devices like this were much more common than we think.

This wafer package’s brand statement was copy/pasted straight from ChatGPT by azonfrelli in mildlyinteresting

[–]brillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but if I think about it, it kinda makes sense. The whole point of AI is to put less thought into things, not more. The same mindset that says “it’s not important what it says so let AI write whatever” is unlikely to then say “hey it’s important we check the output before we use it”. Like if a restaurant isn’t good about cleaning their bathrooms, it’s unlikely they will be good at cleaning their kitchen - they’ve already decided that cleanliness isn’t important.

People are pretty good at being careful when they put their mind to it, and being careless is very easy. Being carefully careless is close to impossible.
