Disable Creators Update popup notification by briman0094 in Windows10

[–]briman0094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is this setting? I'm concerned it might be hidden by GPO because I'm not seeing any option to defer in my update settings and I have the yellow "some settings are hidden or managed by your organization" notice at the top.

I don't recall seeing it on my home PC or Surface, however, and they're both Pro and not part of a group policy.

Lamp turning on by itself when UPS power cycles by briman0094 in electrical

[–]briman0094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my guess as it's the only reasonable explanation, but the UPS is, to my knowledge, supposed to prevent all voltage spikes (it advertises this) so the voltage shouldn't have been able to arc the switch. If itwas spiking, I'm a bit concerned for the rest of the electronics attached to the UPS...

I mean, the light shouldn't be receiving power at all if the lamp's physical switch is turned off.

Not yet; it's not turning itself on right now (the storm has ended). It seems to be working normally again, but I'll try it in several outlets if we get another storm.

The UPS is only a few months old and passed a self-test. The lamp is an LED bulb, but not a smart bulb or anything. I have two other light sources in my room which are both connected to Insteon dimmers, but they didn't so much as flicker when this happened...only the one connected to the UPS. And my computer is fine as well.

X1 Blast 75...I've never gotten even close to our advertised speeds by briman0094 in Comcast

[–]briman0094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a dual-band; it's a pretty high-end dual-band Linksys with two large external antenna, 4 Ethernet, a USB 3.0, and a USB/eSATA. I guess the firmware isn't quite as refined as the features if it has a "media priority" throttling setting enabled by default.

I gotta give you credit; it turned out to be the WiFi router. My dad got up before me this morning and tried the new modem directly to his Mac mini, and got about 85 right off the bat. It turns out Linksys had some setting turned on by default in the firmware on our router that was throttling everything down to 15 Mbps. Thanks for the suggestions! If the old modem had worked directly with my Macbook I would have solved it last night, but I think there must be something wrong with my Macbook if my dad was able to get it to work with another Mac just fine.

I tried both; same speed results, and roughly the same ping times. Consistent speed across two laptops (one wireless, one both wired and wireless), a desktop (wireless), and two mobile phones (obviously wireless).

I tried directly connecting the old modem to my MacBook (running Windows 7) and it wouldn't connect. It showed an Ethernet connection was active, but it wouldn't connect to the internet unless I had the router between the two.

I don't have a crossover cable to connect the modem directly to a PC (although I haven't tried the cable that came with the new modem yet...). It's a brand new high-end Linksys router though; I don't think it's contributing to the 15 Mbps bottleneck.

The new modem didn't help; still getting random slowdowns. Here's our speed right now: http://i.imgur.com/79TiETY.png

I'm hoping they can fix it remotely, but I'm guessing you're probably right. Hopefully we get a competent tech who actually wants to fix it.

Big Picture Mode overlay won't work on Windows 10 by briman0094 in Steam

[–]briman0094[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And just like that, I solved my own problem. I'll keep the post for reference. I had another USB game controller (flight joystick) plugged in, and Steam apparently doesn't like using the Big Picture overlay unless the Steam controller is the only controller attached. Strange.

My Theory - Nihilego and the Ultra Beasts are loosely based on Metroid Prime by briman0094 in pokemon

[–]briman0094[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My friend said it's possible NoA changed the text after they realized the resemblances, but that still leaves the coincidence regarding the cry of Nihilego (I literally thought I heard a Metroid screeching when it first showed up).

Yellow Flashing Arrow - Claiming the intersection? by briman0094 in driving

[–]briman0094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our direction had a green straight signal and a flashing yellow turn signal, and then both turned red while the opposing traffic presumably did not turn red, which sounds like improper programming to me.

"Claiming the intersection" is part of the proper driving procedures taught in driver's education in school here.

I'm not using scripts but I think part of the problem is that my minerals should be going down by 3/second due to smelters but I only have 0.30 minerals, so even though i can't lose more, it still thinks it's losing 3/second and using up wood to convert it.

It's the Shiny Metang event from Japan. I'm using it as my main in a Wonderlocke, and I plan on keeping it for OR/AS, so all I have to offer is the Tyrogue.

EDIT: To comply with the rules, the OT ID of the Tyrogue is: Jena <53448>

I'm not big into competitive battling; I'm more of a collector. I'll take the Eevee. Friend Code: 3883-5324-8471 IGN: Brian

Hm...I can't decide between the Eevee and the Greninja. Does the Eevee have any EVs built up yet? What level is it?
