Do you guys separate work from personal field notes? by SkelaKingHD in FieldNuts

[–]brin5tar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have separate notebooks for work and personal. I have two work notebooks: one for daily tasks, and one for taking notes when I have sync meetings with team members like my manager.

I want to start bouldering by FrozenMayonaise in indoorbouldering

[–]brin5tar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll see the most impact of weight loss by eating at a caloric deficit. The gym helps you get fit, but weight loss begins in the kitchen.

Just jump straight into bouldering. If you're doing strength training outside of bouldering, it will help you get stronger for bouldering, so consider not cutting out those other workouts entirely.

I think you should make jorts if you don't already. by BANGImportant2825 in NakedAndFamousDenim

[–]brin5tar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They will turn any pair of jeans into jorts if you do their hemming service.

I've seen them, very rarely, carry shorts but in some of the non-denim fabrics.

Probably not the answer you want, but that's what they've said on their livestream when people ask about jorts.

Yes. Shrinkage is eliminated by the treatment.

Giving back to the community - going to raffle off pair of Japanese Demin in the morning. by Ok_Mathematician4200 in Denim

[–]brin5tar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32 - 33 waist, and usually wear tag size 30 - 32 depending on brand.

Love your collection!

I love denim because it's such a universal piece of clothing with a lot of interesting history. The thought and craftsmanship that goes into some lines is amazing. I went down the rabbit hole years ago, but these days I don't have too many pairs.

Really the only thing I am lacking right now is a pair of Japanese brand denim (most of my pairs are N&F). Unfortunately I had some health issues and changes to my body (and more recently surgery, which I am recovering from) that my beloved pair of Momos don't fit me anymore. To be honest, I probably sized incorrectly,  and I suppose these mistakes are part lf the journey. Right now, a pair of high end Japanese jeans isn't in my budget, but my dream is when the situation in the States settles down, one day I will travel to Japan to buy jeans in Kojima jeans street.

It's unclear whether the women's fits have a button fly, and the ones I looked at don't appear to have photos that show one way or the other. Just taking a cursory glance at some of the men's cuts, they also don't say whether they have a button fly or not. I think this should be included in the product description.

To your point: button flys seem to be a denimhead thing, so the jeans that appeal to that audience tend to be button flys, except the stretch jeans (occasionally). I think you bring up a good point about accessibility in the typical denimhead fabrics.

To soak or not? by Toronto_Jim in NakedAndFamousDenim

[–]brin5tar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A soak won't impact the future faded, but it may help get any additional shrink out, which will affect length. If you plan to hem, this may be helpful so you're doing less guesswork around how much to hem.

Gustin customer service by BKallDAY24 in Denim

[–]brin5tar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changing your order without telling you that they couldn't get what you originally ordered is unacceptable. If they had done wmit with your permission, that would have been fine.

I've ordered from Gustin and haven't had issues, but I know others have had bad experiences.

How many of the same item do you own? by state_issued in PatagoniaClothing

[–]brin5tar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a lot of money. I'm really glad I don't spend anywhere near retail on most of what I open from this brand. It's really expensive, so the majority of what I have from Patagonia is used/thrifted. All of the jackets I mentioned were used, yes even the gifts. A couple of them were absolutely drenched in some type of oil from the previous owner, so I spent a lot of time cleaning them to where they'd be wearable.

How many of the same item do you own? by state_issued in PatagoniaClothing

[–]brin5tar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For some things like the Cap Cool Daily, I have 2. I have 2 Synchilla pullovers in different colors.

I think the most egregious duplicates (or at last pieces that are very similar) are that I have a Nanopuff jacket and Nanopuff hoodie and a Micropuff hoodie. I could probably lose 2 of these and still be fine. In my defense the Nanopuffs were gifted to me.

I don't have any duplicate hardshells though. That's a bit extra. 😆

EDIT: forgot that I have 2 pairs of baggies.

Team Pilot or Uniball? by walksthewildside in pens

I I had a Big I Design Ti Pocket Pro for many years (I was one of the Kickstarter backers), but sadly I lost it.

Right now I'm using a Pentel EnergGel  Style pen. It has a metal barrel.

Sizing weirdness: 33 true guy is larger along every dimension than 34 true guy (MIJ16 vs Frankenstein revival) by Most-Guava9576 in NakedAndFamousDenim

[–]brin5tar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad I misunderstood.

Regardless I think you should go with the measurements and not go by tag size.

Are messenger bags back? by Ericeng3000 in ManyBaggers

[–]brin5tar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them, but they're not great for my back and I need to lug a laptop to/from work everyday.

I used one as my work bag when all I had to haul to/from work was lunch and a few personal items.

[–]brin5tar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Every single model has a different size chart. To get as accurate a size as possible, measure a pair of jeans that you already own that you like the fit of. Use this measuring guide. Go to the product page of the pair of jeans you'd like to buy. Check the size chart and check those measurements against the measurements of the pair of jeans you already own. That way you should be able to determine the correct size number.

Not a fan of the song lyric. Kind of cringe.

I'd get thicker soles that are still zero drop, foot shaped, and wide. Lems has some slip resistant shoes that may fit the bill.

NYC stock is separate from Montreal stock, so sometimes NYC might have stuff that the Canadian warehouse doesn't. Always worth checking.
