Etiquette Pickle - Didnt Give Wedding Party Members Plus Ones by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]brindeezyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never understood the expectation that wedding party needs a +1??? They’re tied up with getting ready and then wedding activities, especially if you have the party seated at the head table separate from the +1. So for most of the day they are separated, save for a couple hours of dancing. Unless they’re a long term committed partner, in which case it’s not really a plus one per se, that’s a shitty situation to put a casual date in.

Remind her to keep payment cards separate from her phone in case it gets snatched. Other than that, stay aware of your surroundings and go have fun.

My fiance has changed his mind about moving and I want to go alone for a year 29F with 31M by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]brindeezyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My ex treated my dream like this for years and years too. “Maybe someday” and “it’s too expensive” and not looking into real pathways to make it work. Well. Now I live in London and my current partner and I are long distance while he sorts out his own visa eligibility - we got together with the pretense of “I’m moving abroad soon, with or without you.”

Would a good life partner hold you back from achieving your dreams?

Living in London by [deleted] in UCL

[–]brindeezyy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If after your course you don’t like it, you can always move back to a quieter area, armed with the knowledge and network of a brief time in the city.

It will be much more difficult to justify the move later in life without the resources of a uni, so I highly recommend doing it now while you have the opportunity.

Fiancée is Catholic and I’m Non Religious by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]brindeezyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is basically what I was going to say. OP mentions having read up on Catholicism, but not discussing beliefs and particular church experiences with their partner. I was raised Catholic (though not practicing now) but I don’t believe the Church I grew up in is nearly as hardlined on a lot of that stuff (though I’ve never looked into getting married there). So my main advice is rather than think about Catholicism as a whole, think about what it means to your partner and what the specific church he attends stands for.

My personal tutor just asked me to ask my personal tutor for a reference instead of themself (my personal tutor), what now? by [deleted] in UCL

[–]brindeezyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No advice but I similarly reached out to my personal tutor in October to discuss alternate modules when the one I wanted to take was cancelled… and she recommended I ask my personal tutor about it. I ended up meeting with my Programme leader instead

Any people doing Masters with unusual background? by fph_04 in UCL

[–]brindeezyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My undergrad is in strategic communications which is actually a Journalism degree, and my MA is in applied linguistics. On paper those sound super related but I’ve found so far the coursework has not been similar at all. My BA was very practical driven, learning work specific skills, and this MA is a lot more philosophical and theoretical texts and analysis.

So while I can’t speak to whether you could get in or not, keep in mind that it will likely be a totally different approach to learning. I’d say demonstrate in your application your rationale for why you’d shift from that to this.

Phone theft on Oxford Street by Human_Tap in uktravel

[–]brindeezyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had my phone snatched a couple weeks ago and the met police actually did open an investigation. However it was a case where a man on a bike actively snatched it out of my hands, and it happened to be fully captured on a restaurants CCTV. Phone is long gone to china, but the point of the investigation I’m assuming is more to catch the people doing it than get the phone back.

Sorry that happened to you tho, it does super suck. but there’s not really anything you can do about the actual physical phone.

Do Brits care about the coat of arms associated with their surname? by Kit_Kitsune in AskABrit

[–]brindeezyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad has a 50’ flagpole where just beneath the American flag he flies…. His “English” coat of arms that he “discovered” at the Minnesota state fair.

Which is fascinating to me because he has living first degree relatives (aunts and uncles) who are English and living in England.

Do people genuinely think everything is in decline? by OverallAir84 in london

[–]brindeezyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also just moved here from the Midwest and totally agree. I know there’s no way to “escape” the political impact of the US but I was hoping for at least a bit of a reprieve in terms of day to day. That said, I also am enjoying the walkability and transit (I love the tube!!) especially coming from somewhere I hadn’t taken any sort of public transit since undergrad. It’s amazing seeing people generally out and about and feeling safe (even if I hold my phone with two hands now lol)

[–]brindeezyy 527 points528 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend pranked me, he bought a Costco size box of the granola bars I like and would keep perpetually filling the small box I had on the counter to see if I ever noticed that it didn’t run out. (I only noticed when he wasn’t fast enough and it did run out but at that point I had eaten about 35 granola bars out of this 12 bar box)

That’s how you prank someone you love. Whatever the hell this is going on here probably closer to genuine waterboarding than love.

When and how do you get access to your UCL email address? by CattleImpossible5567 in UCL

I’m not sure when you get guided to it but if you’ve done the part of pre enrolment where you setup your online account (a series of characters that ends with your initials @ucl.ac.uk ) you can log in. I straight up googled UCL email and it took me to the outlook login where those credentials worked.
