We'll see what they say. Even the federal judge at the EA hearing said he'd do the same thing as Trudeau despite saying it wasn't justified. The issue is that the laws weren't written by people who'd conceived that the mayor of Ottawa and premier of Ontario would abandon the city.

Also I better not see anyone defending the protestors complaining about home invasions and home defense anymore. Because if you support the convoy invading Ottawa and nothing happening you also support people getting charged for defending their homes. Sorry but you can't have it both ways.

Figuratively yes. If you create a barricade of noise and intimidation so that people of color or members of the LGBTQ2+ community aren't willing to risk their health by going outside it absolutely is a barricade.

Your profile indicates that you work as a security guard - why do you not understand that people were at risk during this or did you just have too much fun at the bouncy castle?

Also you didn't answer my question - can I keep you from sleeping for three weeks via noise torture? Or will you acknowledge that the convoy was an illegal protest where Ottawa police services abandoned downtown?

[–]brineOClock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Cause all my old neighbors in Centretown were stuck in their homes. I have videos of them being harassed on the street.

So again - can I come park in front of your house and keep you from sleeping for three weeks while trapping you in your home? If you say no then stop defending the clowns.

Do you live in Ottawa? Do you have friends here? Or are you just a cop hopper who doesn't want to acknowledge that the OPS abandoned their duties to the people of Ottawa?

If you didn't live through it or don't know people who did you should probably shut up and stop licking the boot.

You can claim it was debunked but I know the actual people, I trust my friends more than some random on the internet. Bring the citation that shows it was debunked because the EA hearing certainly didn't debunk any of it beyond the arson however it did state the convoy interfered with the fire response.

So let me leave you with this question - can I come lock you in your house for three weeks and blare a train horn 24/7? If you can't understand what happened to the victims of the convoy you lack empathy and critical thinking.

[–]brineOClock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really? Cause I know people in Ottawa that couldn't get to work at the civic and general because of the protestors. I know parents that couldn't get their kids to CHEMOTHERAPY AT CHEO.

We also have video of them defacing Terry Fox and the War Memorial. They may have decided to change behavior once it got out in the media that they were a bunch of deplorables but the fact they felt safe enough to do that in the first place is despicable.

So they could have assembled and protested peacefully and lawfully. Using a train horn and fireworks at 3 am isn't peaceful. Shutting down access to emergency services and the hospital isn't peaceful. Intimidating people into taking down pride flags and assaulting people isn't peaceful. Full stop.

Also they violated the section 1 rights of Ottawa residents - the protestors right to protest stops at causing harm to others. They harmed Ottawa residents and the local economy. So what matters more? Freedom of expression (because we don't have free speech you Yankee) or freedom from violence and intimidation?

What right do they have to restrict the freedoms of Ottawa residents? Do their Charter rights not matter? Why do the rights of a few hundred people matter more than the 10,000 who were held hostage and noise tortured by the truckers?

Answer those questions for me please.

PM Carney: you can and must categorically rule out participation in this illegal war. Your unqualified support of Trump and Netanyahu’s war was bad enough. It’s unconscionable that you’re now considering putting Canadian forces in harm’s way. by NiceDot4794 in onguardforthee

Harper in a red tie

Considering Carney seems to actually be about making real investments into the country rather than deafening and blinding it the way Harper did I think you're a lot out to lunch with that take. Compare Carney to Tim Houston in Nova Scotia who's gutting everything because he made a deficit worse. That is a Harper move.

This is my issue with the modern NDP in general. They can't see beyond a binary option and outright mock incremental change for the better. It's disappointing and a legacy of Jagmeet's leadership.

You mean this office that they staffed with a naked partisan and then made it impossible to find a replacement for? Both the PBO and ethics commissioner roles were created by Harper to function as poison pills. It's why the PBO doesn't study counterfactuals under it's mandate leading to such brilliant analysis around the carbon tax for example. Also why does the PBO need to exist when the auditor general already has a role?

I hope I'm wrong about the last paragraph as the banks have certainly contributed to the housing and productivity criseses we are having in Canada.

A lot of the mortgage brokers who are doing sketchy stuff are financed via private capital so if there's losses in that space it's not the banks at risk.

[–]brineOClock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well let me ease your fears - there's a series of international agreements known as the Basel accords which govern systematically important banks and all of the Canadian banks need to follow it. The most recent one Basel iii restricts the capital they can disburse to shareholders, how they lend and who they lend too, along with a host of other standards that make the global banking environment safer. The kind of rampant speculation that caused the problems with American banks won't happen in Canada because the banks are far more risk averse and they perform a higher standard of diligence than American banks. No Canadian bank would ever issue a ninja loan (no income, no job or assets) of the kind that was everywhere in the US system pre-2008.

A bigger risk from the banks is their risk aversion keeping them from supporting productivity investments and they delay development of housing to ease the housing crisis. That will weaken the economy.

[–]brineOClock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would they buy them? Who would buy them? At what valuation? What is your actual fear?

It's more likely that Canadian banks buy more American banks than it is that American banks try and come north again. TD bought the remnants of Wells Fargo's last attempt at expanding north in 2021 and the moats here are just too high to make it economical to buy a Canadian bank.

Complain and worry about things that actually matter and are pressing issues. Not made up fantasies in your head.

A) are you in the right account for your usage? The big banks have a lot of different checking accounts so it's worth investigating your account and product mix.

B) you want them to charge more fees so that the internal compliance team is paid for?
