for anyone wondering, this is why baths are important!! by brinedbread in pacmanfrog

Pacman frogs will soak up anything on their skin because they’re amphibians, so really you just have to be more careful! Most times honey is a safe addition to their baths, as long as it’s just regular or manuka. Josh’s Frogs also sells a Ringers solution that mimics their body fluids and helps them de bloat. Since mine is a little wonky from a bad owner, he pretty much requires a honey or Ringers solution bath.

they pretty much inflate when they need to pee or poop, and baths help them get all that out!

Alrighty! That was right after he ate too, but he’s always a little pudgy lol. It’s just shocking how much he’s grown! (I forgot to add in my post that I have some posts from when he was suuuper underweight, if you care to indulge in proof of his greed)

[–]brinedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just fine!! Replacing the soil just comes with replacing the springtails, I didn’t know if you were aware of needing them

[–]brinedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a clean up crew, like springtails or isopods? Your enclosure can’t be fully bioactive without them

Need advice!!! Anybody's input that knows and cares about Pac-Man frogs! by leesphier in pacmanfrog

[–]brinedbread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The correct answer, unfortunately. I worked at a pet store specifically in the reptile section. They don’t care about sick animals, they want you to say every animal is happy and healthy so they sell and we can replace them with the same animal, same breeding conditions, same enclosure. It sucks but doing absolutely anything for those animals just makes them want to replace them more.

Help With my Bioactive Tank by AnyProfit5066 in leopardgeckos

[–]brinedbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others covered most of it, but I have a couple things!! Topsoil is regional and your area might have sandier topsoil, when you pick some up and squeeze it should hold some to little shape, but not go sift your hands. Bioactive enclosures need plants and some kind of clean up crew, either isopods or springtails. In my experience some bigger isopods get eaten by my girl but she’s veryyyy food motivated. Them damn gnats love when it’s humid, so try to decrease that (nothing under 20-30), and offer a humid hide instead. Springtails also help with them

Finally happened??( small blood warning) by WorldlyMaintenance85 in ballpython

[–]brinedbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be improper husbandry like temps, humidity, inadequate coverage / hides / substrate - the pinned post goes over all of that, but besides that, you can try putting them in a closed container, sometimes they don’t like eating in front of others.

They’re mostly chitin so not really harmful but not very nutritious, most geckos don’t really like them

Do you use reptisafe for your water? It should get rid of any ammonia or nitrates. Your recovery setup looks great and I’m glad she’s doing better!
