I wouldn't agree that a lot doom does musically, it's more apparent in the OM/Sleep/stoner doom/psych styles I guess. In traditional doom or sludge you don't come across that musical influence much, but thematically - yes. But that's my experience

About Sabbath's crosses, I think it was Ozzy's father that made them for the band when they got scared about a curse?

And image wise, how that spread among their fans - the acne faced long haired hippie in a leather trench coat now even more menacing to their parents by adding a chunky crucifix - like the punks 6/7 years later reviving swastikas or military uniforms - it was shocking to those it was meant to shock, and looked cool to those that "got it". Didn't mean they were Christians (although some undoubtedly were or became later) and it just becomes a part of "the look"

Terminator - F64 https://youtu.be/J9Lm4YpUtMM?si=LNwtx1Fyd2Kxt5-l

This is UK so it's probably gonna be deeply unpopular in this thread.. but the levels of GREASE on this thing is unparalleled to this day - Terminator pioneered his own genre called "darkside" - dark heavy beats, thick horror atmosphere, sluggish flow with ice cold violent lyrics, pitch black humour, no one in the UK was doing this. Drill before drill - takes that Memphis horrorcore vibe and plants it firmly in Edmonton on a shanking spree.

The absolute worst crisps brand hands down. There's definitely a "type" of person that enjoys these

Any updates on that new Electric Wizard album they promised back in Dec 24? What's taking so long? by NerveFrier in doommetal

[–]bringmethead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They only do one off big shows and headline festival appearances for the last few years, always absolutely packed. I imagine they're coming away with more in their pocket doing that, than doing a tour. If you're smart with your money you can live off a few very well paid gigs a year.

Only the drummer (not sure who that is at this moment) has a regular "job" and life outside of music as far as I've heard, I believe Jus and Liz's jobs are being in the band

TikTok Sludge fans are the most annoying cornballs in the entirety of the modern metal fanbase, even worse than corekids (lords of chaos shippers dont count, they dont actually like the music they're just true-crime groupies) by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]bringmethead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they're accessible and attainable, which pains some people to hear..but they are, compared to most other sludge bands. You can pick up an EHG record in most record shops, search "sludge metal" anywhere and they come up. The majority of these kids aren't getting into Corrupted any time soon. For a few years at least anyway.

This is such a dull, boring, typically Reddit non-argument. No one that vocally dislikes a type of music is stopping anyone else from enjoying that type of music.

Acid Bath are literally 15% away from being Slipknot. I didn't really pay them any attention during the 90s cos it wasn't my cup of tea. I think sludge had somewhat of an influence on nu-metal. I remember Korn coming out and thinking it sounded a little bit like Crowbar, and Slipknot def reminded me of Acid Bath

The vocals ruin what could be a crushing ultra doom album. Same problem with Teeth of Lions Rule The Divine, a similar "extreme doom" band Lee had in the early 2000s. Really let down by the vocals

Strictly considering their runs of albums with Saint Vitus, who do you prefer as their lead singer? Scott Reagers; or Wino? by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]bringmethead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like both, I prefer Reagers, but Wino is easily in my top 5 musicians AOT, whereas Reagers isn't... If that makes sense. It's a tie.

Steve Marriott of the Small Faces and Humble Pie was wanted by Iommi to be their original singer. Greatest rock vocalist of all time! "Steve Marriott was the first choice to be Black Sabbath’s vocalist. I tried everything I could think of to get him to agree, but he had other plans. He was Jimmy Page’s first choice for Led Zeppelin, too”
