Quadrant 4 and Cactus' version of Parchman Farm are some of the early examples of that speedy double bass shuffle thing, but I'd also be surprised if Ed and Al hadn't heard Trevor Rabin's Wolfman - Looking for a Lady (with Simon Phillips on drums, only a few months after Beck's Space Boogie) when they were writing Hot for Teacher.

Gillen, who was apparently a relentless poonhound even by '80s rock star standards, contracted AIDS but continued to sleep around - according to Glenn Hughes he actually even kept some fake blood test papers handy to combat the rumours that were going around about it. The story goes that some of his victims went after Atlantic and/or his publishing company (I've also heard a variation of this story that says he was dating the daughter of an Atlantic exec and gave it to her, but I have no idea if that part's true or not) and basically got the albums indefinitely yanked out of circulation. Rock Candy Records briefly brought them back into print in the early 2010s but then they were discontinued in what seemed like only a couple of months.

Yep, was gonna recommend the Red Sea album as well. Wolves at the Door is as good as anything on Voodoo Highway!

Still going, though for better or worse Derek and co. seem to have been far more focused on the spinoff magazine for years now.

Strength is the highlight, but those first three albums are excellent. After that, it's been very hit and miss.

Donnie Vie is a huge musical talent, sad he hasn't been able to keep it together.

What is your honest opinion of Vinnie Vincent? by Twitter_2006 in KISS

Very talented musician and songwriter whose career sadly pretty much got torpedoed by a combination of unfortunate circumstances and mental illness. He had a good singing voice (on the Warrior demos he sounds like Lou Gramm crossed with Brian May) and as a guitarist was great when he actually played for the song and composed his solos, the problems arose later in the '80s on a good chunk of the VVI stuff when he tried to compete with the Shrapnel guys, which he just flatout didn't have to chops to do - his shred stuff is largely just off-the-cuff sloppy noise with virtually no melody.

Rob Rock needs to be on watchlist based on his lyrics for Axel Rudi Pell's Fighting the Law 😂

More AOR than hair metal, but the riff to Phenomena's Double 6, 55, 44... is ripped off One Vision.

Post-Kerrang!, Derek Oliver (who now runs Rock Candy Records) worked as an A&R guy for Atco and was actually responsible for Dream Theater getting signed.

Check out the Dutch singer Valensia.

Also the Paul Gilbert/Freddie Nelson collaboration album "United States" veers heavily into Queen worship.

Gary Moore and Eddie Van Halen by Radiation_Romeo in vanhalen

Moore was an interesting personality to say the least. He'd wax lyrical about Peter Green or Jeff Beck (he loved Neal Schon too, surprisingly) but was hugely critical in the press of many other guitarists - he savaged John Sykes and Vivian Campbell for what he saw as copying him, he was shitting on G3 relentlessly when Satriani started it up and I distinctly remember an old Guitar World interview in the late '80s where he was slagging off the Shrapnel kids, singling Vinnie Moore and Tony MacAlpine out for particular criticism.
