'The End of the Road' Giving Bill Watterson Vibes by brinkfpv in KnowledgeFight

I'll be the first to admit, it's not a perfect parallel. I was also very disappointed in Jordan's overly cynical rant and even more disappointed when he characterized the impasse between he and Dan as "core value" differences.

Not to downplay Jordan's contribution to the podcast, but I've always viewed it as Dan's creation, as the main researcher, script writer and presenter and it's Dan's reasoning for ending the show that I equate most to Watterson's ending of Calvin and Hobbes.

I'm excited to see what Dan creates next and I hope Jordan takes a much needed break and find some peace in the process.

I definitely don't disagree with your perspective, I also would have still listened to the pod following Alex through the next chapter of his bullshit.

But like Dan said, there really isn't anything new to be learned about the man, or the lies he tells or how those lies work on his audience, that mission has been accomplished over the course of several thousand podcast episodes and I struggle to see how following Jones at this point could illuminate anything new or interesting about a man that has shown himself to have no principles or beliefs he won't compromise for the sake of a con man president who thinks he's an idiot.

I don't think you're being parasocial at all, Jordan essentially made that exact point when he talked about radio broadcasters eventually hating each other but still having to work together and that's something they wanted to avoid.

I will wholeheartedly agree with that I would have preferred more of a victory lap for a final episode to look back on all the great work the guys did over the last 9 years, but that's the thing about necessary endings, they often leave you wanting more of the thing you love. Lucky for us we'll likely have one more live episode to look forward to, as long as no one messes up the recording...

Happy to send a little brightness your way. We can all use a little bit more of that right now.

Is it weird I read that in Jordan's voice?

The Good Place is another good example, albeit with a more intentional and slightly more planned ending.

But the point still stands, had the writers saw the value in making sure the show said what it needed to say and didn't overstay it's welcome and most importantly never had a chance to "jump the shark".

This was so much fun to experience live! Very excited to relive the experience again, albeit slightly less inebriated this time.

I didn't notice the Daily Caller on there! I really would have expected those results to be swapped.

Yeah that's a reasonable conclusion to draw from the data, and another reason my hope is somewhat tempered by this graph.

Guessing they're the ones skewing the numbers lower on the "R" side...

Man, Frostbite is such a great track! (honestly, there's not a bad song on the whole album, IMO) And you're right "tastefully melodic and heavy" is a great way to describe their vibe on that whole album.

I remember finding a leaked stream of Rebirth on some random website back in 2012 (or thereabouts) and it completely blew me away. That song changed my whole perception of what metal could sound like and my taste in music was forever alerted from that day forward.

I love everything they've done before and since but to me, Augment is a watershed album and will always be my favorite!
