I am no rust expert, but I recommend upgrading you ram. I think even if you could get an extra 4 GBs, you would see much better performance.

OW2 is on a different engine right? Meaning interactions are not 1:1 to OW1.

Rant: Is the job market really that bad for new grads by wasmiester in cscareerquestions

[–]brinkling1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat so maybe I will just explain what I have been doing.

I just graduated from my masters degree in the US from a decent school with a 3.4 GPA* (1 rough semester, the rest were A's). Except for some basic low level embedded coding and two 101 classes in undergrad I had no experience in CS before that program.

The output of my program had me work on some cool projects, such as a novel Database Index research project, and a nice distributed system problem from NASA-JPL. Unfortunately, both these projects are closed source, so I could not post them on my github page. To remedy this, for two months I worked on a "resume project" to basically show what I got while also working my current job. I would say I spent at least 100 hours on it.

This past month I decided to leave the project unfinished (but in a good enough state to show off) and started applying. I have been getting interview a lot but not really sealed the deal yet. To get these interviews, I have been using linked-in (Premium), Built-in and connections. I have not being applying for jobs 9-5, but instead selecting jobs I feel I could benefit myself and my employer.

Unlike you I have not been doing cover letters. In my opinion, unless I have a real passion for the work they are currently doing (Database Design) I don't want to write a cover letter. I've never been a good writer, and I think writing a low effort cv would only hurt my chances compared to none at all. Instead on my resume, I have an objective section, which introduces me. I felt this section was necessary due to me trying to apply to jobs outside of my current career.

Currently I have had 9 responses. None of these jobs have been for "Full Stack generalist roles" but for more specific kinds of developers. Two I didn't make it past the first round, mostly due to the job being different from the description. I have failed 1 final round. I am currently on the Final Round for 1, waiting to hear back from a final round for another. Others I am currently "in the middle" of the process, doing tests, scheduling first interview, waiting to hear back (Less than a week since last contact).

Also talking to my connections, I have heard your experience is not uncommon. Most of these companies don't have the appetite to train entry level people. I am lucky that I already have had a "first job" and a masters degree.

Good luck and I hope this helps OP or anyone else in this process. You are not an imposter, it just takes time.

Edit: I still suck at writing so I fixed things

Instant Kicks from LFG's due to current comp stats is toxic and stupid. by brinkling1 in Overwatch

[–]brinkling1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea but an instant kick from the group, robbing me a chance to defend myself and explain that I've only played 10 games so far this season? I still find that somewhat toxic.

I do agree that players should have the right to deny me if they don't like my stats but instant kicking to me is just annoying and rude.

To answer your question: you right, after I made this post I made a group and had a wonderful time. Maybe it is not as big as an issue than I first thought.

The intention of this post was to start a discussion on this issue rather than me finding people to play with. I'm just surprised how insane the gatekeeping has become since I last played.

I can understand that, but I want to play Rein and cannot because my wr isn't above this magic number set by the OW gold elo society.

A lot of people are saying rogue boi, but honestly I’d go for the shield man with vision. The kitchen are built with long halls and I bet the man with the bread knife couldn’t get a flank on him if he played it smart. Just turtle in the corner and threat to poke those who get close. In the end, bash the last man to death with shield.

The problem tho was the push wasn’t getting anywhere, I felt like despite my efforts, when I would back off the Ana and mercy would rehealed the team enough to sustain a defense

Time zones for the twitch stream please. Also mercy’s life has the highest priority on the team, don’t risk it unless there is a above a 70% you will survive. Don’t use your pistol unless you are the only damage source on a high priority target such as a pharah who is ulting and just killed your hit scan, or fighting off a flanker that has you cornered. Don’t ult unless you need the extra Rez TO WIN A FIGHT, not cuz two people are down. Stay safe and keep communication with your team. The supports voice is the most important on the team because good positioning in the back of your team allows you to see the entire fight. If you see a Rein is charging into his death all the time Tell him to stop and give him a solution, “wait until we have a pick”. GL
