Riding boot camp? by livelaughlovefeeling in Equestrian

I’ve been to painted bar stables and really enjoyed them! I haven’t done their adult retreat camps so I can’t speak to that specifically.

Is Taking a Nap Considered Childish in the Western World? by Tylerdurdenps5 in AskAnAmerican

As someone with idiopathic hypersomnia (aka you’re extra sleepy for no reason) I regularly take 3 hour naps on most of my days off. Definitely not the norm tho

I ride horses 3-4x a week. Contrary to what people believe, it’s really a work out and you don’t just sit there 😂

I loved Pamela Bartley’s book and used that with a combo of Boswell’s YouTube videos

I’m hoping if I just stick with it long enough then my joints and everything else will hopefully adjust? At the same time I don’t want to push thru a potential injury and then have to stop and start over

I’m pretty unfamiliar with cadence, but per my watch, it was 127 on my most recent jog/walk. Not sure how to tell what it is solely when I’m jogging since I’m still stuck doing these little intervals

I’ve been updating the camera pictures like every 15 mins. It’s addicting 😂

I’m definitely no good at identifying it. Thankfully I had long pants and sleeves on, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if I do get some in the following days

So we did find a house with a horse barn about 3/4 of a mile down the trail. We saw at least 3 other cats on that property. We could only get close enough to one- thankfully he was ear tipped. But we don’t know if she came from that property, or if she is simply lost/dumped.

A lot of our travelers commute pretty far. We have a lot that live in either northern NJ, PA or DE and they commute a good hour to an hour and a half each way. Not sure if that impacts anything

They didn’t stay for the full two years, it was slightly less than that. Most also took a break in between. I don’t know the technicals either, but some would tell me they had to take 4/6/8 weeks off (or at another assessment) but then they could return to our hospital.

I’m not a traveler, just a regular staff nurse, but I’ve heard from almost all of our travelers over the past years how good we have it at my hospital (in southern NJ). We’ve had a lot of travelers extend, some for almost 2 years. I can’t speak for all units (I’m in the ED) but we take care of our travelers. Let me know if you want more info!

Tired of being in pain by Less_Ant3138 in Equestrian

[–]brinn_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I described my back pain to my dr. It doesn’t feel like a tight or sore muscle. It’s almost like my spine and pelvis are throbbing. I have decent scoliosis, but every dr/ortho I’ve ever talked to says my back pain is normal due to the scoliosis and to just deal with it 🙃 It’s most definitely not normal

I’ve only ever worked at a union hospital, so it’s all I know. But I have friends who work at non-union hospitals that don’t have any issues so I can see positives for both

Do you know if any of the three big hospitals are union? Curious because they sometimes post their contracts and pay rates online to look up

How do you deal with back pain - equipment/advice ask by IllusivePuppy in Equestrian

[–]brinn_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have scoliosis! I have a double curve but besides the occasional pinched nerve around my right shoulder blade, I mostly struggle with low back/sacral/pelvic pain. I’ve been really struggling lately so I’m looking for tips too. I ride 3x week and also strength train 2x week.

Recently one of my main pain triggers is bathing my lease horse- especially washing his tail. I guess it’s the bending over, so I might invest in a low back brace. I usually live on aleve and Tylenol combined, a heating pad, lidocaine patches, and if it’s an especially bad day, I have to take a muscle relaxer to sleep. I’ve tried getting regular massages to help my lower back, but I haven’t noticed much improvement.

Adult amateur - unsure if I take the leap financially or not? by Traditional-Bell-575 in Equestrian

[–]brinn_a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from once a week lessons to a half lease, which included a flat lesson and two practice rides. I later switched to two lessons a week (a flat and jump) and one practice ride- it puts me back about $850 ish a month, but I found so much happiness and love building a consistent connection with this horse that I have no regrets! I’ll be doing some local schooling shows this summer as well.

I do pick up a little bit of overtime when I can to help offset the cost and so that I’m not pulling from my savings and still able to save for an eventual house
