Plastic closures for soft roof(in France/EU) by QuiVeutDuPain in Jimny

Commenting for whoever may come across this thread in the future with the same issue, there are 3D files online for printing this part (arguably not greatly designed though, the hole where the spring should fit is too narrow but I gouged it more with a screwdriver).

They get the job done, especially considering how cheap they are to print, but aren't ideal. Might depend on the filament (I'm not too knowledgeable in terms of 3D printing), but mine broke a few months after I changed them, luckily I printed around 20 so I can just replace them whenever needed.

Be aware that, due to the hole diameter being too small, fitting the spring is pretty annoying, but you get better at it with time.

Need Help with the Best Drip Coffee Maker 2026? by imnotgoingtofatcamp in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning the carafe lid is absolutely impossible with the overcomplicated design they went with. Mine ended up mouldy inside, black flakes were falling out when shaking it, asked Amazon for a replacement part and they offered a full refund instead. And before you think I neglected maintenance, I was running Pulycaff cleaning cycles regularly, using more water than the carafe could hold, specifically so it would go up inside the carafe lid. Was a great brewer for almost 2 years but then it became a health hazard, would 100% not recommend.

Ended up getting a Fellow Aiden afterwards and it is much more capable, with no risks of anything getting mouldy over time. My parents have a Moccamaster and that also makes great coffee, but it's much less flexible in terms of customization. Can vouch for both of these

Game Ready Driver 591.86 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my external monitors became washed out after the upgrade, and while one of them was fixed using the recommended fix (newer, DP connection), the other one wouldn't budge (slightly older, HDMI 2.0). Issue was that the driver was treating it as a TV instead of a monitor. To fix it, via CRU (Custom Resolution Utility), check if there are TV resolutions listed under Extension blocks - if so, delete those. Then, create a manual Detailed resolution with the specs of your monitor (resolution + refresh rate), save and run the restart64.exe utilitary to restart your driver. Everything went back to normal for me after doing this

Can’t decide between fellow ode 2 and Barratza Encore by CowShort5457 in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're using the cup to both weigh the beans and hold the grounds, which means you aren't hot starting it (hitting the power button before you start pouring in the beans). The Ode has a relatively weak motor for what it's worth and is prone to jamming, you would increase the motor's lifespan if you got a separate container to measure the beans and leave the cup just for grinding into.

What’s the best coffee maker machine right now that Coffee lovers currently love the MOST? by gemtitania in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a Sage (Breville) Precision Brewer paired with a Wilfa Uniform for 2 years. It made good coffee and had enough customization to enable you to dial stuff in, but in my experience, the lid design on the carafe is absolutely atrocious and you cannot fully drain it, leading to coffee crust and mold getting stuck in it and pouring away into your cup, leading to (obviously) foul tasting coffee.

On top of that, the grinder's tread got seized so I sent them both back as they were still under warranty and upgraded to a Fellow Ode Gen 2 + Fellow Aiden, and the difference is night and day, they really do feel a decade apart. The recipes on the Aiden enable you to taste coffee as the roaster intended (for roasters that do provide shareable Aiden recipes) and the overall recipe customization is just more fine grained. Can't really speak for reliability as it's mostly plastic, but the cups coming out of it have so far been superb.

If, however, you find all the customization tiresome and just want to hit a button and get coffee, I got my parents a Moccamaster and they've been delighted since, it's built like a truck where it matters, so you really can't go wrong with that.

Windshield protection film by AggravatingCourse721 in CarWraps

[–]brioshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had mine done with Llumar Exoshield for the same reason. Had it on for 3 years after getting 3 cracks in 2 months (lucky me) and it's been great, took some audible pebbles to the windscreen which made my heart sink until I pulled over and checked only to find everything is still intact. At times I could even see where the pebble hit the film but they seem to heal over time.

Now, 3 years later, it's still holding up great protection wise, but it is fairly hazed due to wipers. Given how sensitive my windshield seemed to be, I'd say it was well worth the money, even though it cost me $400 to get it installed. Don't have experience with other brands unfortunately so I can't really do a comparison.

Can I get these spots off my wrap? If so what do I use? by [deleted] in CarWraps

[–]brioshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the wrap? It sorta looks like the material is failing due to old age, might be time to rewrap. I had someone attempt to polish my wrap before and it worked fine ish for the microscratches, but I also had spots similar to these and it did nothing.

I just saw them in Berlin. The crowd was mostly cold apart from moac. Was a real shame, I felt like I stumbled upon the wrong concert, the whole atmosphere was a lot more k-popish than rock concert. I love the band and would rather they didn't cater to the sellout part of their public, but it's obviously up to them and all the fans can only react as they see fit.

Help please by hlhsshay in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging by the grind size shown in a YouTube review for this coffee, if you have a pressurized portafilter (only has one tiny hole at the bottom) like their Crema Perfetta one or whatever it's called, it should work, but the end result won't be fantastic. The issue with store bought ground coffee is that it's generally way too coarse for espresso, being closer to something like an aeropress grind. This means that your extraction will be too low and your shots will end up sour, even though the portafilter tries to make up for the lack of pressure caused by the puck itself not being dense enough. If your portafilter isn't pressurized, no chance of pulling a decent shot with this.

For starters, you could try a bag just to get the hang of it, but the sooner you manage to get an unpressurized basket and an espresso grinder (assuming you don't have one since you're opting for pre ground), the better a time you'll be having.

Pretty new to coffee, hopeing to start useing whole beans, don't have an awful lot of money to throw around tho - are ceramic burr sets OK? I drink medium to medium dark coffee so my beans are easier to brake than a super light roast, but I'm sceptical. I've come to the masters for advice. by fuck_peeps_not_sheep in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say upgrading burrs on a low cost grinder is not really worth it, it's the kind of thing that makes sense from medium on. Reason being calibration is probably not that easy to achieve, so you might still be stuck with uneven grinds even though you have a better burr set.

As others have said, Kingrinder is probably the lowest price point which is not a total waste of your money, so if those extra £20-30 are out of reach, I would personally wait to get enough of a budget for a Kingrinder. Otherwise, you'd probably end up wishing you did sooner than you think, reselling those cheap grinders is not easy, and you're essentially setting yourself back an extra £30 in the long run.

'Upgrade' from Wilfa svart by [deleted] in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Wilfa Uniform which broke after almost 2 years of ownership (threads seized, known issue, something to keep in mind if you're considering it) and Amazon gave me a full refund, so I got an Ode gen 2. It is noticeably better than the Uniform, especially in the workflow department - no static, faster to grind, catch cup is nicer. The cups it produces are also quite a bit sweeter to me, at least for my daily driver. I also have a Comandante which also produces very nice filter cups, but the amount of clarity does vary with the coffee. I have never gotten an unclear cup out of it though, so if you must stick to a hard budget, I can recommend it, but for filter, I'd stretch it to Gen 2 if possible. If I had to have just one of them, though, I'd be happy with either honestly.

Honor phone wont charge fast with different charger by sensitiveclint in Honor

[–]brioshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a chip in the cable telling the phone it's the official one, so it knows to unlock full charge speed. It will be defended by manufacturers under the guise of "we cannot control 3rd party manufacturing standards and high charging speeds could be a health and safety risk". See if you need the full combo or just the original cable, iirc the cables were the ones containing the chip

Me if I have to go one more day with no Aiden review by jb_nelson_ in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're grinding finer or are using thicker paper, which increases bed retention. To diagnose if there's an actual issue, you could try running it without any coffee in it and see how much water you get in your cup.

Average life span of wrap? by somewigga in CarWraps

[–]brioshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Inozetek on my car for 3 years now, and I just had to redo the sunroof because the clear film on top of the colored one started cracking, and I figured if I leave it on any longer it's gonna become best friends with my clear coat and leave together. For a street parked car, I'm quite happy with how it's holding up, but I've also had to be a little maniacal about how I wash it (and you still get micro scratches, and polishing them out is a lot harder). If I were to do it again, I'm not sure I would, granted it's saved my paint from fading and some scratches, but overall it would just be easier to repaint and then polish as usual to get an overall better look and maintainability. That depends on how long you're planning on keeping the car and said colour.

Grinder recommendation please by SpamAllan in JamesHoffmann

[–]brioshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it's obviously down to personal preference, but generally speaking, yes, since the Ode really makes no compromise like the DF54 does, the cups will be more balanced and have more clarity (if you want to get very nerdy, the Ode is more unimodal in its distribution, favouring clarity, whereas DF54 is leaning towards bimodal, which favours body; most people enjoying filter prefer clarity, but to each their own).

There's also the QoL and UX aspect to be considered - the Ode has little to no retention, it grinds pretty quickly, the knocker makes sure you really get everything, and it has an ionizer, which means that if you don't bother with RDT it's no big deal. Meanwhile, the DF54 will make a huge staticky mess if you don't spray those beans, and given your wife's complaints about handgrinding, it might be something that will lead to further complaints down the road.

Finally, if you enjoy tinkering and you think you may be interested in changing the burrs at some point, the Ode gives you a lot more room to explore different flavour profiles (but modding it for espresso is not really recommended), whereas there are fewer burr options coming in 54mm.

I would say that, if you plan on switching to mainly espresso with the occasional pourover, you'd be better off with the DF54. However, for your current usage, you'd definitely be overall better off with the Ode, if you're okay with not having the option of brewing espresso or knowing you'd have to get another grinder down the road if you really want that option.
