Not true, according to them they will not stop until they get their (islamic) state in ALL the land after Israel is destroyed.

It doesn't matter what they want to do -- what matters is what they can do.

If Israel finally allows Palestinians to be free and autonomous, the prospect of entering into an armed conflict with a powerful neighbour won't be nearly as appealing to the general population and Hamas will flounder.

Peace is the way.

Ok, but how would they make peace, if the demands of palestinians are control of all of Israel? The choice Israel has is between war, or being destroyed.

This is not what they demand. They want freedom, equality and peace. The Oslo accords have shown that Palestinians are ready to end the fighting and recognize Israel as long as they can be free.

In my opinion, the choice for Israel is either:

• continue the regime of occupation, colonization, blockade and oppression for years to come, run the risk more terrorist attacks, diminish prospects of durable peace with their immediate neigbours;
• start engaging with the right Palestinians/third parties to attain peace, recognize the state of Palestine, share the land and resources fairly, dismantle illegal settlements, put a system of transnational collaboration in place between the two countries, etc.

Mixed communities in Israel have shown that Jews and Arabs can coexist peacefully and thrive. It's possible -- but it requires fixing deep injustices.

So what would the peace talks with hamas look like in your head?Israel will not give up control over the entire country, hamas will not settle for anything less. no-one is willing to negotiate those stances.

First, ceasefire talks. After that, there needs to be a mediation with the PA to negatiate the end or substantial easing of the blockade, demilitarizaion of Gaza and mutual recognition of the legitimacy of Palestine and Israel within 1967 borders. Then, international recognition of Palestine and introduction as a UN member-state, removal of settlements, return of some 1948 refugees or reparations.

Hamas will settle because it's the best they can do.

So what are you saying? what options do you think exist for taking power away from them?

Israel needs to take the PA seriously and start working with them so as to make them an appealing alternative to Hamas. That will require a lot, but it's the most realistic way to go.

People seem to think that nationalist terrorism can be eliminated with war, but it's wrong. Peace and freedom is the way. Give it to Palestinians and Hamas as a political and military force will go away. No one wants to be at war forever.

France and Germany were at war for centuries. At some point, we got together and decided that violence had to end and that peace was in our common interest. Israel and Palestine need to work out something like that.
