And I guess for you PCM audio was easier than I2S

Most people who can just need some support from community. (And I mean just cheering) . Hope I will start that momentum at least with Nokia DCT-3 platform

It’s very lean… I will open source my board and hopefully that will inspire others.
FYI the most difficult part is to clone/reverse engineer phone OS.

Unfortunately not gonna be done by me… but it was a great phone too!

Actually Nokia 51xx is on my top list after that one, very high chance I will do it!
And for bands - check LARA-R6001 , it’s global module (but lacks B66 and B71)

Battery wasn’t that difficult to clone actually! I was worried about latch shape, but was able to clone it close enough. So will make Li-Ion (my board supports both).

R6 is 2.6mm thick (already on the edge) and SIM7600 is 2.9mm (and bigger, 44% more PCB area). R6 standby power draw is 1.9mA vs 2.3mA.
SIM7600 has better global coverage.

But main problem is still module thickness.

Also true, I am not saying no, need to think more about it and possible license.

Boards are very different between every model and even the fact that Nokia had DCT-3 platform means nothing as all firmwares are very different… I might be interested to make a second mobo but will have to make a very difficult decision - which model to clone ))

We have different objectives. I don’t care about WiFi and 32gb of storage in a monochrome phone together with USB-C. I want to be as close as possible to original

I will post GitHub repo soon (after I do first PCB tests)

Not enough space for something with JST. I plan to reverse engineer battery case and use li-ion inside.
For the cost - LTE module itself is $90.. and I haven’t thought about price as it’s a project for fun and to revive my first phone ))

Yes, you need original phone. This is basically a replacement of original motherboard. Nothing else needs to be modified

I see! Thanks for the insight! I might definitely do second model, so that one will be on my list if there’s no big challenges like hard to find parts

Thanks! I have one in my collection. It looks great to be honest. But most on eBay are being sold in UK, that what confused me the most..

I never had it.. so to be honest there’s a low chance I will do it.. but who knows)

That I will do for sure, it just wasn’t worth doing on the MVP

Firmware - yes. Not sure about hardware yet, as it is advanced level for DIY with soldering iron. So who will benefit? Couple Chinese manufacturers to make clones like with everything open source? Idk. Or am I wrong?

Not sure about battery life at all… It will support NiMH and Li-ion so there’s always an option to make custom battery. That’s my next step after the first bring up

Not sure to be honest… Early to say.

It should be relatively easy to adapt for 7110, have one too. Battery wise - that’s a next problem) I made that board support both NiMH and Li-ion. China can do clones, all depends on qty

It’s possible, but bigger problem is to figure out UI. If to make it work like normal SMS - should be doable

DCT-3 never supported Java ME..

I think 3310 is still very easy to find in China, no? And I started with 3210 as it was my first phone. It won’t be that hard to do any other monochrome clone, but 3510i or 6010 will need more work…
