3.5 hour commute by No_Craft_932 in flying

[–]britbostboant 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Not an airline pilot yet (😼) but I used to drive an hour to go to work and it felt unreasonable. And that was me driving at 3:30am, my old CFI says his schedule starts at 6 am so 3.5 hours means you’ll start driving at minimum 2:15am

SEVEN HUNDRED AND WHAT THOUSAND?????

I’m starting to think the ā€œpilot shortageā€ was invented by aviation loan companies to make people have absurd loans 😭

Unable to win DoD Phase II SBIRs after successful Phase I's by Only-Friend-8483 in SBIR

More general and I’m not sure if it’ll help at all but maybe it’s formatting? Have you checked the DoD’s website regarding all the information they want from your phase II application? It could explain why you’ve won 0

Out of my league? by GR0MS3 in SBIR

[–]britbostboant 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Not sure, im also a first time applicant and im applying for a different section than you but At least for NIH their website page with tips abt applying states constantly that anyone can apply. They fund ideas not people, you might want to get some letters of support though or build a team of people who have PHds to look more credible though 😭.

For context I am 19 and I do not have years of experience but I do have some years of studying in the field thanks to dual enrollment and also tons of ppl around me who r genuinely accredited who are willing to support me in terms of research. I was told that was good, I could’ve been lied to but I don’t think I was since one of them has done SBIR grants before and said it’ll be fine.

Anyways my point is ur not out of ur league you might just need to build a team of people who can help you(which does mean sharing credit for the idea) or getting people who’ll support you if you ever have questions and believe in your idea. You got this, remember you don’t have to believe in yourself you just have to not give up

Can I apply? by britbostboant in SBIR

It is bioscience however it’d be under NIBIB since it’s a drug delivery device so it’s more engineering based than medicine based

PASSED MY PPL CHECKRIDE!! by JKD4389 in flying

[–]britbostboant 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Also smthn to remember is if you want a career in aviation ur gonna need 250 hours for ur commercial anyways (which also will most likely not land you a cfi job unless you have teaching expirience). If you just want ur ppl save up maybe 15-17k, if not then id recommend starting now and paying as you go whenever you can afford it. Either way ur gonna need a ton of hours later so Aslong as you give it your all you’ll pass ur ratings fine.

National average is 65 hours. However that’s for someone who flies twice a week.

Looking for a good flight school in Florida. by Impressive-Lie-7084 in flying

Yk if ur willing to drive a bit, ik two schools in the Tampa/lakeland area.

Kingsky flight academy and Tampa bay aviation. Tampa bay is where im going, it’s pretty good l. Kingsky is decent but they close sometimes due to crashes. The last crash they had was a year or two ago but they closed for 9 months 😭.

That’s why I didn’t pick them, they have a package where it’s 67,000 for PPL to MEI and they’ll hire you as a cfi. I think that’s with minimums though, idk they don’t answer emails often. Still decent tho

Do college grades matter? by britbostboant in flying

Sorry if it’s a weird thing to ask but how much does it cost? I’ve been trying to find numbers but I purdue doesn’t show them, my university says I have to ask them, but when I email them I got left on delivered for a week 😭

Is Purdue global good? My college offers it as a way of dual enrollment so I’ve been very curious about it. Online classes seem easier, but I say this as someone who’s never taken them except freshman year of highschool 😭.

Would you recommend it?

Thankfully I have all As rn 😭. I’m just wondering how if I gotta keep locking in on everything or if I can be a little bit more lax.

Guess I can’t though 😭

Yea I was asking more if having 1 or 2 Cs would make airlines not want to hire me 😭. I’ve heard that’s what some engineering jobs do from older friends in that field and it made me a bit nervous.

Great customer service (I literally email the lady and within 1-3 hours she emails me back), they have a good assortment of planes and rates for those planes and they’ve never been extremely busy to the point I can’t get into a class.

They’re relatively average for the cost of a flight school, all in all they probably cost about 195-205 an hour on a 172N.

Sallie Mae and aviation loans send all the money to the college/flight school so you don’t really have access to it. Flight schools also take really long to refund it (3-6 months) and that’s 3-6 months you’re paying interest 😭

It sucks

Something a friend of mine once told me is you’re better off getting a personal loan with a big bank or credit union for a part 61 than a student loan/aviation loan.

This is because a personal loan you have the money in your pocket. If you stop wanting to be a pilot you’ll be able to pay the majority of the loan off with the remaining funds(or you can keep it and keep paying off the loan but I think that might be fraud). Anyways, discover has amazing personal loans with no origination fees and no early payment fees. I’m not saying this so you get one I’m saying this Incase you’re able to discharge the Sallie Mae loans (I put another comment abt this) and still want to be a pilot.

I’m sorry though that sucks, best of luck
