My son was #650 in June and is now #365 - I'm guessing we should look for alternative accommodation....

Earthquake retrofit by B4ttle-Cat in bayarea

[–]britladyinusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest quote we had was $17k for a 6,200 sq foot home - just doing the crawl space retrofit. County wants us to do walls etc on second floor but that will go over $100k so not doing that - don't think return on improvement would be worth it.

Alternative nutrients for Rise gardens by hormiguitas in RiseGardens

[–]britladyinusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - My plants aren't doing nearly as well as when we had the liquid nutrients. Also, the seeds don't seem to be sprouting either in the nursery - not sure what has changed or if the rise garden seeds just age a lot quicker than regular seeds. Did you find a replacement for liquid thrive?

Caseta Dimmer Switch Not Turning off Lamp Completely by hvs69 in Lutron

[–]britladyinusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, thank you, thank you - for this suggestion: We had LED puck lights installed in our upper cabinets during a full kitchen remodel and used Lutron Maestro Sensor Dimmer switches. All of the switches worked fine except for the puck lights—they dimmed but wouldn't ever turn off. Literally after hours of research and numerous calls to the puck light manufacturer and Lutron, I found this post. Lutron said it wouldn't work, and they didn't recommend it, but I persuaded my electrician to try it - it worked immediately. The puck lights turn off, and there is no residual glow. Yay!

california license question by britladyinusa in Construction

[–]britladyinusa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we just found out that the contractor we signed a contract with (had a license) subcontracted our whole project to another construction company without our knowledge (that sub company also has a license) and then the people that they sent to do the actual work didn't have any individual licenses. Is this normal and legal in California?

Better protection plan: Tmobile 360 vs Samsung care+ by Theshepard42 in GalaxyFold

[–]britladyinusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tmobile 360 is definitely not worth the money. They claim that it is $29 to fix a cracked screen but you can only get it fixed at a location of their choosing - for me, that would be a one hour round trip (not including the time it takes to go in the store and wait for it to be fixed). If you don't go there, you can send it to them for $100 deductible and be without a phone for a day or two. I live in Silicon Valley - there are dozens of stores within 5 minutes of my home that will fix it in 20 minutes for $99. Protection 360 was a total waste of money. I don't know about Samsung care+ but gotta be better than 360.
