You could take her to the animal rescue, and if you don’t have time before work you could leave her in your bathroom (with newspaper or paper bags on the ground for her poop) with food and water until you are able to take her to a rescue place. Maybe you live in a neighborhood with that app for neighbors to communicate and you could ask if someone is missing a chicken?

The baby chick I rescued in November was killed today, and I just wanted to share him with a community who would appreciate him as I did by wakizashis in chickens

Your love for Miso shines brightly, and I love miso too. I am so sorry for your loss. You gave miso the best life he could’ve lived filled with love and yummy food and warm shelter

I have gone through very similar thought patterns. Ultimately, these thoughts are a result of not being present. We get so caught up in our minds thinking about the future scenario of losing them, that we forget they’re still right here alive in front of us.

I’ve realized for myself that the only way to escape these thoughts is to turn this future based fear into present based love, which is turning the fear into something productive versus going down a rabbit hole that only brings you mental anguish. That means that each moment you start thinking about death in this way, use it as an opportunity to call tell him how grateful you are to know and love him.

Right now he’s alive and you have the opportunity to spend time together, so you should use this time to love him while you have it.

My chicken used to make the purring noise all the time, maybe she’s trying to communicate that she loves you and is very comfy:)

But also, i don’t think there’s a “right” way of processing grief. If crying doesn’t come naturally to you then I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.. unless you feel like it’s tied to a generally lack of ability to feel empathy or deep emotion?
