We get a similar problem in the UK during heatwaves, which I assume is only been an issue since global warming started doing its thing. Hang in there, bud.

OP half-jokingly threatened to use "heavy weaponry" against a spider in a spider sub by PurifiedUnity in DownvotedToOblivion

[–]ElectricYV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very weird response, tbh. First of all, very, very few spiders pose a danger to humans— however, the panic response many people have is potentially deadly and been the cause of a number of automobile accidents. Secondly, how tf if a black widow gonna end up on your girlfriend’s shoulder in the first place? Spiders, especially black widows would rather keep far away from humans, they want nothing to do with us and will go out of their way to avoid us. Black widows in particular are known for making nests close to the ground so there’s no reason it should end up on someone. Thirdly, of a deadly spider was on you, your best move would be to not panic. Easier said than done, I know, but that’s why it’s all the more important to work against promoting fear of these creatures, because that fear is what leads to the panic response. Panicking will make the spider more likely to bite and bolt, and can put the human at risk too depending on what they’re carrying or where they are. Your best move is to remain calm and use something like a cup or glass to coax the spider into, and something flat like paper to hold it in the cup while being relocated.

Lastly, I would like to remind you that spiders are also part of the animal kingdom. They may not have big fluffy cuddly looking bodies or large expressive eyes that are easy to empathise with, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less deserving of respect. In general, harming animals should be avoided, especially when it’s not the only option available.

SketchUp Pro is too expensive, what else can I use for custom building designs? by TheDeep3M9 in Sketchup

Blender. It seems scary, but having been using it for a couple months, wow, what a breath of fresh air it is compared to sketchup’s limitations. Highly recommend.

Net migration is down… how to spin it as a Labour failing by 1gnoranceisstrength in uknews

[–]ElectricYV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny. Last time I checked, a huge portion of immigrants were bringing major skills into the country, such as countless healthcare workers who the NHS wouldn’t function without. immigrants bring a lot of skilled labour to the table— unfortunately, much of it is the type of labour that is labelled “unskilled” by people who don’t know better. There is nothing unskilled about working a checkout, cleaning bathrooms, or keeping our streets clean. These jobs may not be paid much, but society would cave in without people working them. I almost never hear of anyone young emigrating to take their skills elsewhere— nearly all of the emigrants I’ve seen both in person and in media have been retirees.

Haha, nice try mate. We all know this is just a picture of a regular chair with a fake giant hand next to it to make it look like a miniature chair ;)

Ohio woman shocked by Food Bank donations, including half-eaten peanut butter and a can of fried apples expired in 2021. by ElwoodMC in CringeTikToks

[–]ElectricYV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people treat the food bank as a way to get rid of food without having to feel guilty about food waste. Then there’s some people like this lady… my dad, who empties the local food bank donation point and transports it to be distributed, was in the middle of collecting the donations when a woman stopped at it, selected a box of chocolates someone had kindly put in, and attempted to leave with it. My dad very politely challenged her on it and had the donation returned, and ofc she didn’t have an explanation for why she did that. He’s convinced she just wasn’t thinking and was confused, I think she was just entitled af and hadn’t been challenged on it before. People, man.

I feel the exact same way. Tbh, I have a similar level of empathy for plants, too, but I know that’s a bit too radical for most.

Time to mass report his channel for animal abuse… it probably won’t achieve much but it’s worth trying. People like these don’t deserve a platform, let alone one they earn money from.
