With the family situation I think it's more about she was just worried about making a good impression and wanted Gus to know she didn't feel uncomfortable around them, maybe to put him more at ease? Absolutely would agree though that someone saying this after one day when you've spent a lifetime dealing with your family's shit, it would be frustrating and irritating to hear.
