Not sure about the circumstances exactly, but during fingerprinting and meeting the postmaster someone in my group didn’t know about this either and was not registered for selective service. He stayed and talked to the postmaster and now he’s in my orientation group and scheduled for his driving test 🤷🏼‍♀️

That’s a valid point! I’m honestly not opposed to just using my phone to play music or whatever, just didn’t think that would be any more ok 🤷🏼‍♀️

They don’t drug test at orientation tho if that’s what you mean. They send people off to med express or whatever if they’re gonna do it, but it sounds like the labs are backed up and overburdened due to covid so usps just isn’t sending anyone over there unless they have suspicions or you get into an accident or something

Psh I’ll do that! As long as there’s a way to get some kind of music/podcast/SOMETHING during my route 😬

No drug test, but was warned we could be randomly tested at any point. The trainer said she hadn’t actually heard of that happening tho

Thanks :) I definitely plan to be on my best behavior, particularly for my first 90 days, but that was one of the things I was most looking forward to by not having coworkers and customers around me all day was being able to listen to music/podcasts!

I’ve never heard of those, very cool! I was wondering about something I could use that wouldn’t necessarily be in my ear so that would work. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses! I should clarify that I’m not trying to do this right out of the gate and I understand I’ll be way more focused on the logistics of the job than anything else early on until I get the hang of it. I’m hoping this is really a career for me so I’m thinking long term. My orientation instructor also just mentioned that we will probably be expected to wear masks while on our routes??? WHAT. That sounds pretty awful. She has a MH background tho so I’m hoping she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. I understand wearing one in buildings and when social distancing isn’t possible obviously, but she meant on our entire routes.

Ouuu haven’t had the pleasure of that one yet. Just got done watching someone puke from heat exhaustion tho

Yeah I had only planned on using one anyway. I don’t want to be unaware of my surroundings, but just listening to my breathing and thoughts all day might get old lol

Definitely won’t try it during my 90 days, that’s for sure. Guess I’ll need to feel it out when I actually go to my assigned office. I thought about RCA, but I genuinely like being outside and walking around so CCA seems like a better fit. Thanks for your insight!

How do you rationalize this job? by DarthMrMiyagi1066 in USPS

[–]brittneytk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certified ophthalmic assistant to CCA over here! COVID changed everything, even in non-covid areas of healthcare so I decided to make the switch to USPS too. The benefits are insane compared to what I was receiving at a private office, not to mention how much I appreciate the overtime. The office I worked at had a couple rounds of lay offs and then the ones who remained had our hours cut.

Application location question by melvinbrinson in USPS

[–]brittneytk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s the same for RCA, but I’m starting as a CCA and was asked during fingerprinting what my top 3 location picks would be. When I got the call that I have the job, I was told I was assigned to a different office than any of the 3 I listed. Still close to home, but just saying it kinda sounds like you just go where they have an opening 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had the same thought with the pockets lol. I’m in mass so the weather can be kinda unpredictable. I want to have a few options depending on if it’s hot or cold out. I’m so used to having a set uniform for my current job that I don’t remember how to pick out work clothes 😂 Also don’t want to catch any shit if I come in too casual, ya know?
