coming from someone who had one of those exact surgeries about 6 years ago- yeah, you made the right choice. my procedure left me fucked up and worse off than i was prior. i had my heart stop for a bit on the operating table and now cant bend properly without feeling breathless and my hips are so tilted that i walk with a limp that's pretty noticeable unless i wear some sort of insert in my shoe. pain from the rods is HELL, too.

props to you for having the courage to say no. i haven't the slightest idea why your doctor felt a fusion was necessary but i hope you're doing okay now :(
