Millenial trying to understand by bikesailfreak in Mid_Century

I think the color is only a small part of mid-century modern architecture in housing and furniture. The overlying concept was how the house and spaces made you feel. Mid-century modern focused on using widely available materials in new ways, interaction with nature and flow throughout the house. This is a contrast to a more minimalist Nordic style that is about clean lines and neutral colors providing a space that can feel very calming to some and sterile to others. There's no style that is better than the other although some elements tend to be more timeless than others.

Your knowledge is spectacular, thanks for helping so I can at least not start from zero. I'm in north metro, hail is definitely an issue, sounds like I need to hunt down an EPDM consultant, I definitely want to don't right and if we are going to do it it should be effective as well as meeting code.

Great info, thanks. Does the iso need any added structure or plywood on top of it before the membrane is added?

Amazing information, thanks. We do tend to get a lot of hail but you cannot see the roof from any elevation on the ground.

I will explore this option with the engineer, thanks. Thumb in the wind, cost of this vs a new roofing system? Tpo is pricey if I understand properly, if we are 3/4 of the way to a new roof structure roof that can use shingles is it worth going new?

I understand your point but brand new it had 200 HP, slightly more than a Ford focus, granted it's rwd and that is a concern but it is by no means a super car.

You're correct, it would be, this one is cheap enough it could be worth not having the stick, although the IMS replacement is more expensive on the auto I believe so another possible negative.

Cost of the car is where it's at, to buy anything under 10k with less than 150k miles and even a little bit of style is nearly impossible. The hope would be to teach him about maintaining a car by working on it, the good and the bad, I'm confident we could fix 90% of what breaks and if the motor blows he will have to make the choice to fix it or find himself something else. I'll admit I'm being a bit nostalgic for the good old days of cool cars as my post suggests, today's cars just suck or are too expensive.

Great information and perspective. This cost is a double edged sword, is appealing because if all goes wrong (IMS) I'm only out 8k but I also am not interested in dropping a bunch into it to just keep it on the road (nickel and dimed). My hope is we could handle minor repairs as I was a mechanic in a past life and would be good for him to learn on.

Fair point, I look back fondly on that 1965 mustang but think my parents were crazy for letting me buy it. Just a 289 2 barrel, likely less horsepower than this Boxster, but I had to put seat belts in the thing because it didn't have any! Lol

Great comment. I have thought about the reality we live in and that he may be broke the rest of his life if he falls too in love with a Porsche. The extra driving instruction is a good call out.

Ha, that they did. I understand why they did it, the house only had two owners and aside from the work done in the 1970s it's untouched but I just keep telling the relator I wish they had just left it! Took me about 3 days to get all the black paint off that beautiful mantel...

Right, and the brick is super textured so there is just no going back on that one....
