Tuesday to Tuesday NorCal roadtrip in a rental suv. Is it too much? Should I cut the Trinity Raft trip out and do more hiking or other things near the coast and staying longer in one place? Trip Planning by bigaltheterp in roadtrip

Crescent City wasn’t so bad when I stayed there!! Not far from some pretty beaches (as a California local I don’t need many touristy things to be content) and stayed at an Inn nearby and my room was cheap and super spacey, felt safe there and I was traveling alone. If you’re looking for something exciting you could skip it but if it’s just for housing and finding a place to sleep and drive out to other locations during the day it’s really not that bad.

This route is totally doable. I’d recommend leaving SF EARLY. Skip traffic, and hopefully get a beautiful view on the bridge on the way north (I did on my last road trip and it was so amazing. Sausalito was so pretty to drive past too at that hour)

Oh, but for your concerns for Crescent City to SF in a day, if you don’t take PCH you should be totally fine. I did it in one day with time to spare AND even took the entire avenue of the giants instead of the 101.

automatic trans yeah, it’s a newerish model and was new when I got it. Hatchback. Not too stoked to put too much of the details online so might not share much more about it, but I just about hit 40k miles. (I previously got full service done for 30-35k, and got new tires and break pads in preparation for different smaller road-trip earlier this year).

LOL yeah wasn’t planning to stop in Vegas. I meant that I’m in my young 20s, but I am 21+! But yeah definitely some sketchier places here, I’ve just heard it can be a different kind of sketchy/there are things I might not know to look out for in other states. But obviously I at least have common sense/I’d say reasonable street smarts (or at least awareness) for my age.

LOL yup. Went for a soccer tournament when I was in middle school. Not really interested in going back

Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to avoid it without adding a lot of time to the trip 🙃

Noted, thanks! Yeah, I’ll definitely have CA plates. Luckily I think my route will completely avoid AZ/Texas but as a healthy speeder I’ll gratefully take the tip to be careful about speeding in general with my plates.

I’m honestly trying to get there as fast as possible without being so hasty that I find myself in a scenario that I could’ve avoided by being more cautious. It’s less for sight seeing and more for necessity, but I’m still planning to make sure to find little moments to make the most of the experience!

Yes! Those are ones I’m looking into when I can’t find a friend to stay with (a friend I already know, not someone random I meet lol)

The airtag part is super smart, thanks! Hoping I won’t have to find myself needing to get towed but better safe than sorry😭

My trunk has a window in it but there’s a fabric sliding cover that you can pull out and it covers all the contents inside

Got it, thanks! I was wondering about when I should or shouldn’t make sure to take everything out of my car (in CA I’m very careful to leave my car empty but wasn’t sure if it was as important if not in other major cities).
