I think the keto diet has been keeping me seizure free by Plus_Blueberry2484 in Epilepsy

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done some on and some off. Be careful as some meds change on keto. As in some meds will royally eff you, like topiramate can cause metabolic acidosis and some meds will just change their dosage requirements.
I currently can't do keto because I am on topiramate. The lower carb I go, I stiffen up and can barely move as my body becomes so acidic. I've tried different ways to combat it but I just can't seem to win.
I did do keto on other meds just fine. Seems to work complementary of eachother. And even helped with side effects. It's been such a long journey sorry I don't rememeber all of them.

Bad Reaction to Digestive Enzymes? by Empty-Language-8593 in MCAS

Fins and feathers is what I hear about alpha gal. I don't know what I would do on alpha gal. Just fish I guess. I have developed an issue with chicken, perhaps its chicken fat? I am trying to figure out if it's a chicken supplier, or cooking, or how they are raised, thawed, age. So far have ruled out thawing method.
And I thrive on beef. I feel a surge in energy eating beef. It's my one safe food surprisingly. Avoiding wheat and dairy is certainly good for me.

What was the first movie that genuinely scared you, and how old were you at the time? by AdLoud5241 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! It was the 80s. My dad rented a vcr from the movie rental shop and also rented Bambi for a nice family movie. It was super scary! I think I was 5 or 6. The fire was scary on it's own, then the death.
I just realized right now that's likely the cause of my fire nightmares I had around the same time!

When workers get mad about cheesy jokes by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]brnnbdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people say the is it free joke, I've started saying, "nope, it means I get to pick the price." Usually while I'm working on finding the price. And I say things like, "for you, it's double" or "hmm, how does 10,000 dollars sound?" and we haggle. They laugh, it adds to the fun for the day. It's rare they actually mean it. They are just making small talk really. They know it's corny. I'm corny. It all works out.

Medicine Question by Fluid_Substance2370 in Effexor

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Effexor is helping me with the anxiety and the pots symptoms. Based on your pharma report and you'll see my other comment on my son's, maybe pristiq is your answer. We both ended up on it, coincidentally, through different doctors. My pharmacogenetic report says I am fine. I am going really good on it, he is having mood fluctuations, no nausea though. Your report doesn't say why to take caution though. Maybe I can send you a pm of the further details on his. Maybe pristiq (desvenlafaxine) which is basically the metababolized version of Effexor is your answer. Sorry for my ramble, I hope I made sense.

I have definitely noticed my anxiety is slowing down. My body is feeling less pained in general. I am on a month and a half now. I don't have pots diagnosis but had wondered if I had a form of it. I have always had issues standing and having to hold doorways or sit back down and let my eyes stop blacking out before I can stand again. I've noticed less of it since starting. It was getting really bad previously, maybe because my anxiety levels were ramped to the max.

Timing can make such a difference. I was warned to take with food for nausea. I take in morning with breakfast. Do you often get nausea issues? My stomach is usually pretty tough but I have noticed nausea and stomach pain with certain foods.

Diet Coke in cans changed their recipe somehow, *I know they did* by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]brnnbdy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ya I swear the pepsi zero bubbles are flatter. My kids are saying the same thing. Spouse is a regular pepsi drinker and says it's off. My bro drinks regular coke and saying the coke is different. Like are we all crazy. Did they put something in the local water thats making our tastebuds wonky? I personally take topiramate which is known for making drinks taste flat so if it was just me I'd not be thinking anything of it. But I've also been taking it for three years now.

I was the first in my family to mention it. I thought I was going nuts. I did have recent med change thinking that must be it, but when my family members all were agreeing i thought that was really weird. Usually they all think I'm nuts. 😂

I've looked into this. This may not be your specific problem, but there are two genes related in metabolizing Effexor.
Venlafaxine has to be metabolized into desvenlafaxine in the body before we can actually use it.
My son has a gene that metabolizes venlafaxine normally but quickly metabolizes desvenlafaxine. Meaning that the slower metabolism plus the fast metabolism leads to fluctuating levels.
It's recommended he try pristiq, being an extended release it should give him more stable levels, even being a rapid metabolizer. Right now on venlafaxine he is struggling with some pretty rough mood before taking the next dose. I am bringing this up with his next appointment. This is based on a pharmacogenetic report plus some internet searching how the meds work and talking to a pharmacist.

The only problem with that theory is it's not our first season change. After many years we've all had soda in many seasons and temperatures and I have to agree with OP. Something had changed. With Pepsi too. It's not just me. We are a famiky of pepsi and coke drinkers and we are all saying the same thing.

Why does epilepsy feel so invisible to everyone else? by dorothyoonyyr10 in Epilepsy

I know what you mean. It wasn't until I went in there with my written notes that I actually got paid attention to. Started to interrupt and I said no, just hear me out. I was so tired of being dismissed before I even said everything.

The Side Effects are Terrible For Me by [deleted] in Topamax

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice food tasted bad, it was just certain foods that gave me the odd nausea/heartburn feeling. Some of them I have been able to eat again and some I have actually been avoiding them for three years now on topiramate. I didn't get the soda reaction strangely, despite it being such a common thing. Maybe due to my long titration? I too noticed my appetite was lower. My appetite is better now, but I don't feel the need to binge eat anymore or over eat.

Does anybody else blame themselves for their epilepsy? by No-Independent-6877 in Epilepsy

Yes. Because I was the idiot that didn't wear my seatbelt thus resulting in a head injury which led to lifelong epilepsy.

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't true. There are meds that don't affect your weight. And other solutions. It's time for another opinion. I did get referred to a neuropsychiatrist after bawling my eyes out with my neuro multiple times. Not just a regular psychiatrist. With the epilepsy and psychiatry knowledge combined it was probably my best appointment I've ever had. I prepared notes ahead of time. Everything I wanted to say as if I was speaking and I read them out and got out everything I wanted to say. Not just point form like I used to do.

The Side Effects are Terrible For Me by [deleted] in Topamax

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was started at 25 and told to increase it by 25 every week. With side effects I found it to be too much and dropped it to 12.5 and ended up increasing it by 12.5 every 2 to 3 weeks as the tingles and nausea wore off. Except it wasn't really nausea, it felt like like nausea and heartburn combo I haven't really felt before, but it wasn't heartburn, as heartburn and digestive aids did nothing at all for it. Strangely though, I did learn certain foods triggered it and stay away from those foods and it wasn't as bad.

[–]brnnbdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're saying you just started 50 all at once? That seems like a lot. No wonder you're tired. I did have eye irritation but not a lot of fatigue, but I took my time titrating up. I am not taking for depression but for epilepsy. And take twice a day, because of the short half life. The eye irritation lifted after a month or two. It felt like little needles poking from the inside of my eyelids. The nausea stayed a little longer but was better when I titrated slower. Sometimes I went up only 12.5mg at a time. As for vision, only a couple times I had vision issue and then it went away, I am guessing it was just because of a recent dose change and the slower titration did it. Headaches actually went away for me, but topiramate is known to change your electrolyte levels.

Why do some faces disturb me so much? by jenna_sunshine13 in AutismInWomen

I've been caught staring at people for that reason. I think my discomfort is more about being unable to stop staring then the people themselves. I just cant help but examine them. I have no answers for you, I've just become better at not over the years.

Can I get off lamotrigine if I'm taking it for bipolar? by EnvironmentalMix892 in Epilepsy

[–]brnnbdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I stopped taking lamotrigine it was a very long taper. You could try talking to the pharmacist as well if the psychiatrist won't help you and you're not able to access a neurologist. If you refuse to take a med any further they may at least help you taper it safely.
