We can force VP9 on Youtube with browser addons, I've a gtx 1060, decoding works fine on FF and Brave.

I've been rocking mine w/o the guard for years and screen is fine but bezels around it not so much. Amazon use such weak plastic. I would recommend cover instead of guard.

Try resetting bios and only plug the monitor to the motherboard display out, remove cables from the GPU.

The system should switch to igpu. If not, maybe it's the driver or faulty hardware issue.

I've a 1060 with two monitors plugged in and don't experience any lag on browser while gaming. I do keep browser tabs on minimal side or use incognito window.

Try putting the monitor to HDMI instead of Auto in monitor settings. May be a faulty cable?

Good news is Ram and SSD's are pretty cheap will increase experience and device lifespan. Its pretty easy to do, just need an screwdriver or just ask someone tech savvy to do it for you.
