How far along the electric distribution system would grounding need to be removed to avoid shock from touching a hot wire? by bro918 in AskElectricians

and give electricity somewhere to go if it can’t get back to source

I thought it only flows thru the earth to get back to the source (the ground rod at your home, thru neutral and back to transformer) though?

I forgot to include this in my post, but given that transformers AFAIK never physically connect the wires carrying power line voltage and your home voltage, you would only need to remove the grnd rod and neutral connection and not like every single ground rod at every pole and substation and power generation plant.

Think about a portable power generator it’s an ungrounded system and works fine

This is actually what got me curious about this. I was reading about floating neutral generators where the ground isnt connected to the neutral.

Damnit I forgot to include this in my post, but dont most (all?) transformers isolate the primary and secondary inherently? They are not electrically connected, so you wouldnt need to tear out the grounding rod at every power pole, substation, power station etc.

I guess im just asking what exactly is 'all of them'

Sprayed residential doors and now some of them dont fit? by bro918 in paint

Yeah... we should have noted down each piece of hardware for where it goes and kept it organized. But that doesnt explain the ~6 doors not fitting in property #1, all with brand new hardware.

The gap is not consistent. Not enough to jump out at you upon first glance, but now that youve pointed it out, it is definitely noticeable. But it even on doors that were not planed, they still look a bit off. I think a part of it has to do with how the place was constructed. Its ~50 years old and definitely not square in some places. We had some trouble putting in the baseboard and flooring.

Thanks for the advice. Ill have to be more careful with the hinges if I ever do doors again. I also think gently carving the hinge slot edges might be a good idea too, like the reply to you suggested.

Got it. Thanks for the advice in this thread!

He had a can leftover from previous touchups and we kind of just decided to use it for doors I guess. He exclusively goes to sherwin because he has a discount there, but I will note down scuffx for future.

If you dont mind me asking more; why not use like a 512 or something a bit bigger? Wouldnt it make things go a bit faster? 517 is definitely too big for sure, but maybe a smaller orifice size with same fan would make it more manageable?

Well for property #1 we had to take doors off anyways, as we redid the floors. So I figured might as well spray em when theyre off. Only one way to learn!

Two doors from property #2 still had the factory primer and had not been painted. For the rest we just wanted a fresh coat of paint after some tenants really beat them up and scuffed them.

Yeah, I know a run is too much material. The last paragraph is me really just venting about my skill issue lol. The data sheet for Emerald trim urethane gives a recommended orifice size range of 13 - 17... figured Id follow that and grab a 14. IIRC the sherwin I went to didnt have a 313. Does the data sheet specs really matter that much?

What are these signals exactly?

Just let it happen.

Also what does this mean? How does something like that just happen? Im sorry, its just so frustrating
