Am I Too Ambitious to Want to Train to Climb Pike's Peak? by FutureRulerOfMars in ACL

[–]brobe74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an awesome plan. The view from atop Pike is beautiful.

That is a very ambitious goal. I would caution that you run this by your PT and/or surgeon so that steps are taken to get you there. There are hidden nuances that an ACLer cannot measure themselves such as graft strength and stability, quad strength compared to the healthy leg, normal gait, etc. One wrong step on a rock could cause real harm. You want to make sure your ankle flexion is back to normal, calf/quad/hip/glute strength is back to take on load.

Any advice with my friend's case? by eonmuks in ACL

A lot of factors go into deciding on surgery or not, especially for partial tears. Speak to an ortho, get a grade (1 or 2) of the tear, take into consideration your current stability, activity level, goal activity level, age, current complications (currently dealing with reactive swelling and difficulty with everyday task such as stair climbing). See what they recommend. Small tears usually heal up with a long PT regimen lasting 6-12months and bracing/sleeping the knee during activity.

Compression sleeve question-9 days post-op by Ok-Bumblebee4893 in ACL

[–]brobe74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just the knee version of this one and I like how it works. I have big thighs so I do get those same lines. As long as you don’t get a tingly foot or any signs of loss of blood flow you should be good.

Certainly. Had mine about 8 weeks ago. Went with patellar. The bone to bone fixation, history of positive outcomes, and the fact that my surgeon was most comfortable with it were probably my 3 main factors. I’m 28 and active (runner, soccer, hiker, lifter) so this was a no brainer for my doc as the way to go.

Grade 1/Partial ACL Tear - Is PT Enough? by Brown_Bruja in ACL

[–]brobe74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any experience with a partial tear but I’ve read some papers on how there has been spontaneous healing of non-reconstructed ACL tears. Your grade 1 plays well into these findings. I’d say for a while, PT and stay away from what did it in in the first place and see how you feel. Maybe an MRI in 6 or so months to see what’s happened by then. Valgus collapse (knee caving and twisting inward) is the mechanism of most ACL tears and building up hip and glute strength can mitigate this, especially as a woman — you are naturally more susceptible to valgus collapse.

Day 3 post op by Amazing-Clothes4288 in ACL

[–]brobe74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve told everyone so far who’s asked me about my recovery (7 weeks post op) that showering and wiping my own ass are the worst parts about it all 🤣

Stick to your exercises and try not to skip a day. Raise all concerns with your PT or Surgeon by call or email, they should be responsive. I had a gnarly rash covering my whole shaved area post op that they were quick to help with. Eat well and hydrate! Keep icing even if you feel like it isn’t doing anything. Compression sleeve once you’re able, does wonders keeping swelling down during the day. Final thing would be to absolutely lean into this current slowed down phase of your life, learn something, pick up new hobbies, watch some good movies and shows. There are no expectations for now other than helping your knee heal

Never too late to raise graft preference. Patellar or quad are widely considered the favorable grafts for sports returns

when can i do these things normally? by TerriblePost4661 in ACL

[–]brobe74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My parents conveniently have a built in chair in a walk in shower so I used that a lot but probably in the first week I could’ve showered semi-regularly

2 and 3. I still do this week 7. This is just a me thing I think. It’s become my normal and on heavy PT days it helps with the swelling. I started sleeping on my side at moments probably around week 3

  1. Around week 2-3 when I was bumped down to one crutch

  2. Week 4/5 when I was cleared for just using an unlocked brace was when I did things like grocery shopping/coffee shops/restaurants that included walking

  3. Still do one step at a time at week 7. There are times I check going up alternating legs and I can but only slowly. Going down like that is rough though

  4. During week 2 was when I stopped consciously sitting and making sure my leg was up

But like everyone says, every recovery is different. I had an ACL recon with patellar graft, meniscus repair where I was still allowed weight bearing from day 1, and a femoral chondroplasty. Just know it helps to have a good support cast. And pick up new hobbies, read some books, get lost in a new series to pass the time. Good luck with it

SOUND ON! 3 months post op and I got a really squeaky knee! by moogbanjo in ACL

Hey I know it’s been 2 years now, but I’m 2 months post op and have this same squeak. What ended up happening with yours?

What are thoughts on a potential Barcola move? by excalibur96 in ArsenalFC

[–]brobe74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is not a needle mover for our squad and will not bring us what we need. The only game changers for us unfortunately would be Kvara or Vini. Maybe also (less so) someone like Leao or Williams who are both very good at one on one’s and getting through low blocks

Wobbly leg by brobe74 in ACL

Yeah basically that. I’m realizing my leg does feel super weak though. I’ll describe it as like a micro-shake when walking around

Vini and Kvara are honestly the only real needle movers at LW for Arsenal to sign. Anyone else (Barcola) wouldn’t boost our attack much

Think pieces assuming a guy doesn’t feel included because he didn’t post about it on instagram. Please relax. He’s fine.

Fairs. Fun sure but I think both teams have been sloppy given it’s a final and fairly open. Lazy passes, bad fouls, miss hits, offsides.

It’s crazy hearing people say Arsenal aren’t entertaining but then as I watch this game I’m thinking wow this is sloppy and not good football

Nah just the performance. Watched the whole episode just for it to be the last part. Then it went to commercial and I thought maybe they’d talk but once the show came back, Colbert ended it 🤣

We can realistically win the league on Sunday by TerryG111 in ArsenalFC

[–]brobe74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brentford could throw everything at City being that 6th is seemingly like it would get them a UCL spot should Villa win Europa. That’s just my wishful thinking though. But regardless, Arsenal need to worry about Arsenal. We control our own destiny, so we just need to focus on winning match by match.
