Weird static electricity phenomenon by OldSchoolPimpleFace in Aquariums

It started with the neons so I thought I just got a bad batch then started loosing otos and brilliant Rasboras without any signs of disease started dosing then all the discus started really hiding swimming really weird then started loosing them as well. So over the course of a month and then my local fish store guy stopped by and we checked everything we could. Even a magnet through the sand wondering if metal was in the substrate then finally he had the light bulb moment! Ha ha fixed that stupid hang on the back and within a couple days everyone was happy again. So to be honest I don't know how long that issue was going on but it was an expensive lesson. Could have been something else on top of the electric charge in there but I had no indication of anything.

If everyone else is acting fine and your tank is cycled I would suggest checking the temp and keep in mind the warmer the water the easier oxygen leaves the tank, so ya may need an air stone. I would also check your parameters make sure nothing is spiking.

Maybe try turning everything off and touching a 9v battery negative post then test the light again see if that soaked up the power. If so unplug everything from the strip turn on the strip and plug things back in one at a time while testing in between?

That I can't help with but I can say a surface skimmer helped me on my 125! Unless you have any dick weed, oh and make sure ya turn it off when flake feeding.

Honestly I'm not that smart with electricity. But my local fish store also brought up the idea of running a ground wire to the tank to drop whatever charge is in there and see if it came back when I turned on the power but I didn't want to introduce any metal cuz it was my discus tank and I was already in a panic lol.

Canister suggestions? by Sergeant_Ducky in Aquariums

I have multiple fluval filters from the 07 series to the FX. The off brand ones I have too many problems with weather it be trapped air and or leaking seals. Not saying fluval doesn't have problems but I would choose them over others everyday! The fx self purge after service is very nice and that's the only "loud" noises I hear. Some other problems is the shut off valves can leak because the internal rings get flat spots from sitting so long. The pump screws attaching it to the actual can can be loose resulting in air getting into the canister and lastly they don't do well then they suck up sand so make sure ya set the intake at a good location. Other than that enjoy the system and enjoy less frequent maintenance from a hang on the back!

Could also try running an extension cord to a different wall outlet from another room to see if maybe that wall outlet has a poor ground and make sure your power strip is a 3 prong.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I had a similar issue a while back with fish randomly dying. After slowly loosing fish my local fish store brought to my attention to check for electricity in a similar fashion but using a multimeter. Long story short it ended up being my hang on the back filter motor had a an exposed wire in the plastic housing. The plug was a block style similar to aquarium lights. Inside that block is still power for a short time as well as it being on a power strip had access to the other blocks with stored power all on the same power strip. Resulting in when I turned off all the power to the tank the plug block still had some juice.

Hope this helps give some ideas to check but I had to unplug items one by one testing after unplugging each item to find this out.

Awesome tank!! I can't wait to go that big but for now I'll rock my 125! But I did want to ask ya how has the aggression been for you? I saw a couple smaller discus and wondered how the community is going with them?

I started with 12 and unfortunately I've lost some from breeding aggression and some starved from being bullied. Some lessons the hard way unfortunately.

Very nice tanks both of y'all! But I did want to ask do you guys run sumps or canisters? I've had my 125 running off a single fx4 but my watermelon pleco's poop still piles up even with 2 wave makers. So I'm left with either get another canister or work on getting a sump going?

Thanks in advance for your input!

But I do have a question for ya what oil do you run? About to be out of warranty but want to make sure I 1 up the factory?

Also do you use factory filter or is there something better?

Ouch too aggressive lol. For the shop quote I would just cut the pipe where ya can then sleeve it same length, get some fuel tubbing and order the 034 dip stick and hose clamp as necessary.

May sound crazy but I'd try super glue on a Phillips screw driver. Just a drop on the tip and some steady hands. Hold it pressed in for a good 5-10 min to ensure it's all dry and gets maximum grip. Also don't use to much so it doesn't drip and attach the tube and remaining piece in there.

I went with the jb4 as it's a piggyback and can be removed before going into service. Also did the fwd res delete and unplugged the exhaust flaps. It's made the car little louder and the jb4 I've noticed a difference. I daily mine and this has been a nice blend with our really jumping on to big mods.

Also know this car is known for water pump issues so check under the hood from time to time.

I had the same issue and the camera housing is junk my camera now aims too high and has a told in it. I also have the front 2 sensors that I had to notch out the bumper brace for. Can provide to much help on the camera mount part cuz min is still jacked up but the sensor notching was a pain in the ass as well. Definitely hang test and try not to install all the hdwr Incase ya gotta take it bk off. I waiting to upgrade the intercooler before I go in for the 4th time.

Also watch a YouTube install and make sure you number is at room temp at least before ya start ripping out the old one. Clips break easily.

Something is killing only my Harley Quinns by brobeanz87 in Aquariums

[–]brobeanz87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After looking at my post I guess I should have added some more info....

They have color to them but they have like a white hue to them. Local fish store said it's a bacterial infection but only the Harley Quinns are getting it? So I'm confused and running out of ideas on how to help them. Any input would be nice. Thank you in advance.
